DC attorney general 'looking into' Republican photo with assault rifle
Source: The Hill
Two Republican congressmen who posed for a picture with an assault rifle are coming under scrutiny from the District of Columbias attorney general office.
Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) last week tweeted a picture of himself and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the leader of the House GOPs Benghazi investigation, holding an AR-15. It is not clear where the picture was taken, though it could be outside Bucks office in the Cannon House Office Building...
Having the AR-15 in Cannon could be a violation of the Districts strict gun laws, and the Washington, D.C., attorney generals office is looking into the matter, a spokesman told The Hill.

(675 posts)These two should face jail time and lose their seats. This is wanton disrespect for the law and cannot be overlooked.
Seriously, this has gone way too far. If we want to preserve any respect for the law in this country these two must be made an example of just like the police who murder and commit felonious assault, they are two sides to the same coin. A right wing cancer upon our nation that will kill us if not stopped soon.
My God, I hope President Obama gets involved in this, this is sick behavior by elected officials IN the halls of Congress. I've never seen such a gross display wrapped in faux patriotism.
So much of what is sick and wrong with our country is there for all to see in that one photo.
God help us, I fear for our nation.

(675 posts)All I was talking about was a gross disrespect for the law. DC has a well known law banning the possession of just this type of weapon. The ONLY reason these 2 assclowns are posing with this weapon is to publicly flaunt the law. The fact they are doing it within the halls of Congress just adds insult to injury.
I own no weapons, I think their use and possession is some kind of fetish I will never understand, but I accept that people have a right, under the law, to have them.
However I do hope with the election of Secretary Clinton that we will get a Supreme Court that will take a look at the 2nd amendment.

(15,804 posts)He has a disgusting history of placing himself above the law and outside the bounds of ethics. Sadly, in Colorado's ridiculously gerrymandered 4th CD (which borders on five other states), his only qualifier for office is the R behind his name. Those of us who worked hard to elect someone who would have been a genuine representative are not surprised by Buck's behavior; since he first arrived in DC he has provided a continuing series of gaffes and public embarrassments. So who does he represent? His campaign website boasted endorsement by Citizens United, and Buck's presence in Congress is testimony to another seat owned lock, stock and rifle barrel.

(32,008 posts)David Gregory Arrest Affidavit: NBC Knew He Would Violate D.C. Gun Law
In a nearly forgotten controversy David Gregory, then host of NBCs Meet the Press, appeared on TV waving a 30-round ammunition magazine from the networks District of Columbia studio. Gregory was aggressively interviewing the National Rifle Associations Wayne LaPierre in December 2012, asking if it might be a good idea to ban the high-capacity magazines.
His prop, ironically, violated a District of Columbia law making it illegal to possess an ammunition magazine - even an empty one - that holds more than 10 bullets.
Gregory was never arrested or charged with the crime, which carries up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, but an affidavit released Friday shows thats exactly what local police recommended.
Wayne Gerrish, a Washington Metropolitan Police Department detective, wrote in the affidavit the snafu was no accident, and requested an arrest warrant.

Members of Congress are able to possess a firearm on Capitol Hill (House and Senate Office Buildings) Additionally, since they are able to possess it on the Hill, if they are transporting from their residence (not where they live in DC but from their home or someplace they are legally able to possess it), they are able to transport it, even through the District. Much like of someone can possess a firearm in Maine and in Florida, they can transport it from point A to point B as long as it is secure, with out facing arrest.
Also, there are a lot of offices on the Hill that have guns mounted on the walls as decorations.
Got to say, the way Gowdy is fondling the gun does leave cause for concern, so does the suit..... it is love
