A dozen arrested as Freddie Gray protests turn violent

Source: AP-Excite

By SKIP FOREMAN, MEREDITH SOMERS AND JULIET LINDERMAN.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Thousands of protesters took to the streets Saturday in the largest Freddie Gray rally yet, and after hours of peaceful demonstrations, pockets of protesters smashed out police car windows and storefronts.

Two people were hurt in the mayhem and at least a dozen were arrested. The problems happened near Camden Yards, where the Baltimore Orioles game against the Boston Red Sox went on as scheduled. Before the game, demonstrators fought with fans at a bar.

Gray died April 19 after suffering a fatal spinal injury while in custody. Authorities have not explained how or when Gray's spine was injured. Video showed him being dragged into a police van and police have said he rode in the wagon for about 30 minutes before paramedics were called.

Police have said Gray should have received medical attention at the spot where he was arrested — before he was put inside a police transport van handcuffed and without a seat belt, a violation of the department's policy.

This was staged by the police?

Once upon a time, I would have laughed at some one for thinking that...

"My family wants to say, can y'all please, please stop the violence? Freddie Gray would not want this. Freddie's father and mother do not want violence. Violence does not get justice, thank you," Freddie Gray's twin sister, Fredericka said.

Suburbanites supporting the cops -- right or wrong.

E.T.A. ..and a video is circulating of protesters burning a flag outside of city hall. So in places like Clarksville, Elkridge, Ellicott City, and most of Carroll County, heads are exploding.

4. The Only Thing That Will Stop The Violence Is Changing The System

Only 2 things will change the system.

Millions of people demanding change, or violence.

You couldn't stop the Nazis with protests, and today's police
state more resembles Hitler's Nazis than George Washington's
America.

The powerless are abused every day, while the real criminals
on Wall Street steal billions, and abuse millions, and get bonuses
for doing it. Our "system" sucks. There is nothing even resembling
justice in America. If you are poor you get prosecuted and go to prison.
If you are wealthy you walk or get "deferred prosecution" almost every time.

Police don't enforce any "law", because if they did, half the scum
on Wall Street would be in prisons. They enforce "order" making sure
the powerless don't get too out of hand and try to shake up
the system that only works for the .01%

Times are a gonna change.

You heard it here first.

Soon minorities are gonna get tired of having the only option
available to their children being prison, and they won't be taking it
any more.

It's about time. This country is failing fast.

That begins with reparations.
It's gonna hurt but sooner or later it must be done. We could begin with a transaction tax on commodities markets, stock and bond transfers and a small tax on investments to fund a minimum income for African Americans and other oppressed peoples.
We could expand education opportunities for AA people offering free tuition and job placement. I think mandating that one third of all new police hires nationwide be African American would be a great start in solving this problem.

are bashed around inside the steel "livestock" trailer.

Only other time I have seen "rough ride" used is with Gov. contracted animal abusers when they have a trailer stuffed full of just captured wild horses.

Minorities are getting fed up with being treated like garbage.

Cradle to prison just isn't as acceptable any more.
