Millard schools hire gay teacher who was to lose job at Skutt High next fall

Millard Public Schools has hired a gay teacher who was to lose his job next fall at Skutt High School after he informed administrators of his decision to get engaged to his partner.

Matthew Eledge, an English teacher and speech coach, will join the Millard North faculty in the next school year.

Mike Kennedy, a member of the Millard school board, said Monday that Eledge is an award-winning teacher and "Millard hires the best."

Asked if Eledge’s sexual orientation was a concern, Kennedy said, "Absolutely not."
