Tens of thousands protest health, education cuts across Spain
Updated 1h 16m ago

MADRID (AP) – Tens of thousands of people across Spain protested Sunday against education and health care spending cuts as the country slid into its second recession in three years.

Unemployment is at a eurozone high of 24.4%, more than half of Spaniards under 25 years old are jobless, and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's conservative government has introduced stinging austerity measures in its first five months in office.

Speaking at a party rally, Rajoy, who on Friday announced a new set of tax hikes to come into effect next year, said he had "no alternative." He added, "Spain needs deep structural change, not makeup."

Protesters in northeastern Barcelona, northern Bilbao, eastern Valencia and many other regional capitals carried banners urging Rajoy to not "mess around with health and education."

Bush and the GOP did not just bring down the US, he brought down Europe as well. I have said in the past the Bush years were a set up for all socialist leaning governments as well. Our media ignores the facts. Austerity being pushed is international.kAnd the rich are doing it.

Now with Romney they want to do it all over again. Remember how many speeches we heard from the GOP saying that we did not want to be like Socialist Europe. Well, if you crash it like they did then no one can call it a success. Now the GOP is saying Obama is making us like Europe by overspending and over regulating and over taxing. So now they are saying we need austerity like Europe and need huge tax cuts on the rich to save everything.

It is always double talk with these guys. They talk out of both sides of their mouths and out of their asses too.

Be careful what you wish for because you piss enough people off on the planet at it will go the way the Soiviets did in 1917 and it will become socialist or communist like it did there because everyone got po'ed at the czar. Our economic Royalists are no different.

I know they had a real estate bubble but beyond that I don't know.

Hmm Krugman says it pretty much mirrors the US in terms of causation.
