National Mediation Board certifies TWU-IAM two-union partnership at American Airlines ground workers

Source: Tulsa World

By CASEY SMITH

The National Mediation Board has certified TWU-IAM Associations as the collective bargaining agents for approximately 30,000 American Airlines ground workers, the two unions announced.

The federal board’s ruling late Tuesday certifies the partnership between the Transport Workers Union of America and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

When American Airlines and US Airways merged in late 2013, the two unions agreed to jointly represent ground workers at the new American Airlines rather than engage in a representation dispute.

Prior to the merger the TWU represented ground workers at American Airlines and the IAM represented comparable employees at US Airways.
