Illinois lawmakers pass marijuana decriminalization bill

Source: Reuters

The Illinois Senate on Thursday passed a bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, sending it to the governor for signature.

The bill, which passed 37-19 vote, makes possession of up to 15 grams of marijuana a civil law violation punishable by a $125 fine. Individuals will not face jail time.

The measure was approved by the Illinois House of Representatives in April. A spokeswoman for Governor Bruce Rauner, a Republican, did not say whether he would sign it.

"The governor will carefully consider any legislation that crosses his desk," said spokeswoman Catherine Kelly.

people of Illinois need to be able to light up and smoke, both to help any illness or pain they have, or just to have fun!

A few years back, a teenage kid in my town was caught selling marijuana to a classmate. He confessed to the cops that he was growing his own plants on his parent's farm and selling it.

The State Police found his sixteen plants, pulled them up, and weighed them, roots, stalks and all. They determined that these plants had a street value of 640,000 dollars, and called this seventeen year old kid (with no other criminal record) a major dealer.

He was therefore tried as an adult and got twenty years in a state penitentiary. Two weeks into his sentence, he was found raped and beat to death in the prison.

This shit is insane and has to stop.
