Federal judge stops Texas from banning Planned Parenthood from receiving state funds
Source: Washington Post
AUSTIN, Texas A federal judge on Monday stopped Texas from preventing Planned Parenthood from getting state funds through the Womens Health Program.
U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel in Austin ruled there is sufficient evidence that a law banning Planned Parenthood from the program is unconstitutional. He imposed an injunction against enforcing it until he can hear full arguments.
The law passed last year by the Republican-controlled Legislature forbids state agencies from providing funds to an organization affiliated with abortion providers. Eight Planned Parenthood clinics that do not provide abortions sued the state. The clinics say the law unconstitutionally restricts their freedom of speech and association.
The court is particularly influenced by the potential for immediate loss of access to necessary medical services by several thousand Texas women, Yeakel wrote in his ruling. The record before the court at this juncture reflects uncertainty as to the continued viability of the Texas Womens Health Program.

(37,540 posts)One only has to look at what Republicans are doing in Michigan to see their vision of One Party rule for this country. But the moron's who vote Republican hate Democrats so much, they are willingly going along with the totalitarian, anti-democratic agenda of the Republican Party.

(53,661 posts)While I know a number of churched who believe in secular government, and all progressive ideas, and vote Democratic, there are those who fall for the God's Own Party line and have forsaken logic.
I suspect that is what has happened in Michigan and the other states that should be blue. The charter school movement, and the lack of support for Democratic policies in Michigan may be coming from that corner.
They must be approached very carefully to get them to change their minds since they see themselves as some kind of Christlike victims of a godless society, no matter how insane that is, considering how they vote.
Just a thought.
