Labor Dept. orders subcontractor to pay workers unpaid wages

Source: AP

GLOUCESTER, Va. (AP) — An electrical subcontractor has been ordered to pay more than $87,000 to several employees who were underpaid for their work on a new $27 million Gloucester school.

The Daily Press reports an investigation late last year by the U.S. Department of Labor shows that E&P Electrical Contracting Company of Norfolk violated the prevailing wage laws for seven of its employees working at Page Middle School from November 2013-14.

The Labor Department report says the company classified workers as "general laborers" instead of electricians, allowing them to be paid a lower wage.

The Labor Department has ordered the company to pay the employees the unpaid wages, including unpaid overtime, and for proper health and welfare fringe benefits.

They should have to pay for any financial fees the employees may have had due to not having the money they didn't receive. Plus write letters to credit bureau and companies that may have assessed fees or given a bad mark on the employees' credit
