Saudi Arabia Shoots Down Scud Missile Fired From Yemen
Source: Associated Press
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- Saudi Arabia said it shot down a Scud missile fired by Yemen's Shiite rebels and their allies early Saturday at a Saudi city that is home to a large air base, marking a major escalation in the months-long war.
According to the official Saudi Press Agency, two missiles launched from a Patriot missile battery shot down the Scud before dawn near the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait.
The attack suggests that despite more than two months of airstrikes by a Saudi-led coalition, Yemen's Shiite rebels, known as Houthis, still have the military firepower to threaten cities inside Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi news agency did not report any casualties in the attack, the first use of a Cold War-era Scud by the rebels since Saudi-led airstrikes targeting the Houthis began in late March.

(12,158 posts)Did the anti-missile missile shot down the incoming missile with it's war head or did it shoot down the vehicle after it released the warhead?
When Iraq was firing off SCUDS and the Israelis were shooting them down with Patriots, the word was most of the hits were on the launch vehicles after they had released their payloads. The warhead is a small cool target, the missile is large and hot.
It's just one of those misinformation situations. Ooo Ooo!! we shot down a SCUD!!!!! Yeah, who cares?

How did they get one?
And who paid for it?

(29,322 posts)that said, I don't know if a missile was launched, if it was shot down, who fired it as I can't imagine the Southern Movement being big fans of the House of Saud and in that case than a possibility they still had them on stock from the old civil wars which the USSR was their supplier.
