Brian Williams will likely lose his anchor chair

Source: Page Six

A decision about Brian Williams’ fate at NBC could come as early as this week — and it looks like the embattled anchor won’t be returning to “NBC Nightly News.”

Sources tell Page Six that Williams will likely lose his anchor chair following the lengthy internal investigation into his alleged tall tales.

But NBC brass — led by NBCUniversal CEO and president Steve Burke and NBC News chairman Andy Lack — have been looking for a way to keep him at the network in a different, yet-to-be-agreed-upon role. One source told us, “Brian’s six-month suspension is over in early August, and NBC chiefs are under pressure to come up with a solution. The talks are complicated and are ongoing, and there has not yet been a deal. But it is likely he won’t be back in the ‘Nightly’ anchor chair. A decision could be made as early as this week, if all sides can reach an agreement.”

Industry insiders said NBC News staff, led by Lack, have been encouraged to think of alternative roles for Williams.

who 'got it wrong' ONE time i.e. his imagination and his memory leap-frogged into a self-serving delusion which he passed off as "news"... ok I get that.

And questions can be raised like "if he got THAT so wrong, what other delusions did he pass off as news? Any? If there were other leaps into delusion that he aired as news, I haven't seen them, and I think that would have surfaced by now.

So I think the guy deserves his job back.. out and out firing him is a huge over-reaction. I hope he sues their asses off.

I do see these as different in an important way though: Brian was misremembering an intense "fog of war" moment for him, by embellishing it. Rather and Donahue got fired for publicly speaking out against the Iraq war.

You're right though that them getting fired for that is (in a way) even more egregious.

His helo didn't come under fire, fact is that none of the birds in his flight came under fire that day, they weren't in danger where they set down, they landed among a US armored unit.
Lying Brian deserves to lose his job.
BTW, he also lied about his Katrina experience.

The guy already got a 6 month suspension. That should have been enough for NBC to make their
point, get their pound of flesh ...plus it's given Williams some time to reflect and recalibrate.

I'm going to miss him. (well, I already miss him, since he has been off the air for 4 months already.

Clearly we disagree on this, which is cool with me.

in the news, my vitriol stems from the fact that I've come under hostile ground fire numerous times while driving a bird
and it bugs the crap out of me when someone lies about that kind of thing.

I realize that others have a difference of opinions on this, and that's also cool with me, I just don't like news anchors lying about their experience in a combat zone.

It's kinda' sad, really. For whatever reason, he didn't feel he measured up to the kinds of experiences you went through, so he felt he had to lie or exaggerate it. That wouldn't make me mad, it would make me feel kind of sorry for him.

However, how sorry can you feel for someone who makes something like 10 million a year. Isn't that what his contract is?

I liked him as a news anchor a lot, but I found out over the last few months that I like Lester better. Lester does a really great job, totally professional, and he's not hard to look at, either.

the thing is he was in a helicopter a the time and no doubt, it was also a traumatic experience. unlike that other "news" personality on a faux channel who constructed out and out lies.

it is sad. he is a gracious person and i hope mr. williams can put all of this behind him and create something so magnificent with the rest of his life, he is vindicated.

None of the birds in his flight took any ground fire that day, when those birds set down, they were among a US Armored unit for the night, so they were relatively safe.

allegedly he's telling them he'll sue them if they renege on it.

They can honor the terms of the contract, but typically, these things are written such that they do not need to continue putting him out there as the news anchor, but that instead, they can put him in a correspondent position, or perhaps even as some kind of lower level person - but how humiliating would that be? I can't see him agreeing to do something like that.

If they want him out, they can probably do it relatively cheap.
