Months before Pope Francis arrives in Philadelphia, the carpenters' union wants the pope to know that the union's ongoing protest against the Pennsylvania Convention Center will not interfere with the Pope's visit.
"We want to assure you that our ongoing protest of this unjustice will in no way interfere or disrupt the Holy Father's visit to Philadelphia," now scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27, Edward Coryell, the business manager of the Metropolitan Regional Council of Carpenters, wrote in a Monday letter addressed to Archbishop Charles Chaput.
"We believe the Holy Father to be a man of peace who...has a reputation for upholding the Church's longstanding commitment to standing up for working people throughout the Americans, and now as Pope - throughout the world," Coryell wrote.
Coryell's letter described the situation at the Convention Center as a dispute over a deadline for signing a customer satisfaction agreement.

I never really thought about it. I guess I just presumed he's traditionally thought of as a carpenter since his father (Joseph) was a carpenter, and sons in that time and place would naturally follow in dad's footsteps.
But you seem certain he was NOT a carpenter.

(67,782 posts)......was a carpenter, it was just assumed he was. At least that's what I got from three different sites from a google search.

I don't think there is any reference to what work he actually did, and of course Jesus was a preacher and not a worker. (accepting the biblical Jesus as a given in this discussion)

(5,417 posts)The carpenters union wasnt really locked out, they were fired when they didnt sign a new ageeement on time. Their worked was picked up by othet unions, so it appears as if there is some fighting between the unions here.
