The Latest on pool incident: Officer took diversity training

Source: AP

5:30 p.m. (CDT)

A city spokeswoman has confirmed the identity of a white police officer seen in a cellphone video subduing a teenage black girl at a pool party in suburban Dallas.

McKinney city spokeswoman Anna Clark said Monday the officer under administrative leave is David Eric Casebolt.

A viral video shows him pushing a bikini-clad girl to the ground on Friday and drawing a gun on other black teens.

FULL story at link.

A McKinney police officer has been placed on leave after a video showed him pushing a 14-year-old girl to the ground outside a pool and pointing his gun at other black teens. I grit my teeth every time some personage of more-or-less good will proffers training as a fix to problems. I should think the Iraqi Army would have made that clear.

This officer punched the "training" ticket but still had the same attitude so the training was worthless except for the value of ticket punching. It is nothing but CYA for police supervisors and politicians who will say "we did all we could". No, if they did all they could this incident would not have happened. Better officer screening would be a good place to start and that means getting people who understand what "to protect and serve" really means.

This officer had ten years on the force and was promoted to corporal, supervisor and trainer. Apparently, his superiors in the office liked what they saw.

It has been my experience in the workplace that the bosses promote and reward people that they perceive as being like themselves. That this officer was a supervisor at this scene (where his own men tried to restrain him) speaks volumes about the folks who are running this police force.

State troopers here get less pay than the larger city police depts. It is common to get training and stuff in your resume before moving on to higher pay. Happens in fire departments too.

Is it your contention that the LEOs subduing males intend to rape them?

He is way out of line for his actions. I'd be more concerned with his"Get the F out of here" to innocent bystanders, and the denial that he drew his weapon than your perceived "rapyness".

front is seriously fooling themselves. This is a multi-facet issue that is ping-ponging between our institutions and our communities. Getting rid of racist cops is only one step. The other is to ensure that these ideas are not festering in our residential communities where it will have any impact on minority families. In other words, dare to go beyond fair housing practices and look for collusions and practices that create inequality in our communities.
