After Handing Obama A Crippling Defeat, House Eyes Next Moves On Trade

Source: Huffington

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama suffered an embarrassing defeat Friday in his push to pass international trade agreements. But now attention is turning to the next steps, and the president, along with pro-trade lawmakers, have the weekend to regroup and find a new way to win over House Democrats ahead of a scheduled do-over on Tuesday.

Hours after House Democrats rejected a Trade Adjustment Assistance bill, which would have aided workers displaced by trade deals, the president pressed lawmakers to give it another go.

"I urge the House to pass TAA without delay so that more middle-class workers can earn the chance to participate and succeed in our global economy," he said in a statement.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Obama's main Republican partner, said the president would have to step it up and work with Republicans to salvage his trade agenda.

I'm saddened by President Obama's stance on this as I've supported him in most everything he has done as President.

I just don't get it? Doesn't make sense to me, not from this man.

TPP relief measure for displaced workers that would be
taken out of Medicare.

That is just an in-your-face insult to the American people.

But until you cowards hit the streets, you'll just get more of the same.

This is starting to really piss me off.

2. One big question is what's really in the bill?

Does Obama know something about it we don't?
What we know of it is terrible but are there other aspects that still make it worthwhile?
Of course if there were we'd probably hear about it.
The fact that it's secret is it's biggest black mark.

I just don't get it either.

I hope history will reveal what's really going on because there has to be a lot more to this than we are hearing about.

4. There were 3 bills that all had to pass as a package. If 1 of them

failed, the package failed. TAA failed but the other 2, fast track and currency manipulation, passed. The House is going to try to pass TAA (worker assistance) by next Tuesday. TAA lost big time as Democrats said hell no. This was the bill that would have taken money out of Medicare to pay for job assistance.

And people wonder why some of us don't fully appreciate New Democrats as much as they do.

BTW, what middle class? The middle class that can't find decent paying jobs? I believe the correct term for them would be either "working poor" or "unemployed."

Sanders said he is running because he thinks there might not be a middle class within a generation. I hope people are starting to get that.
