Suspect in standoff after gunfire at DPD HQ
Source: ABC
DALLAS Police say a suspect or suspects opened fire on Dallas Police headquarters in downtown Dallas before leading police on a chase and is now in a standoff with Dallas SWAT officers.
Gunfire was reported just after midnight Saturday outside the Dallas Police Department headquarters in the 1400 block of South Lamar.
Police are now evacuating South Side on Lamar because four suspicious bags were left near Dallas police headquarters. At least one of those bags has been confirmed to contain one or more pipe bombs, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said.
According to News 8's Rebecca Lopez, police sources say a suspect fired numerous shots at DPD headquarters from what appeared to be an armored van then led officers on a chase.

(18,124 posts)all that armor means nothing when the right amount of concussive power is applied via explosives. If these were POC, they would have been nuked by now.

(34,136 posts)James Lance Boulware is a 33-year-old white man, with strawberry blond hair 62, and 240 lbs. He may be driving a dark gray Toyota Prius 4 door hatch back with Texas registration LNG-825. Boulware actually lives in the Dallas area, but has ties to the Paris area.
Police say Boulware was involved in a disturbance in the Dallas area, traveled to a relatives home in Red River County, was involved in a disturbance there and came back to a residence in Paris. It has been reported that while at the Paris residence, he took several firearms, ammo and body armor.
Family members talked with him late yesterday afternoon and advised this was a face time call on a wi-fi network in the Bonham area. During that call, he made a threat to kill all adult members of his family, along with a vague threat about schools or churches along the way.

(5,844 posts)I keep saying that if a lot of non-white people gain access to legally-purchased automatic and semiautomatic weapons and they threaten the cops, we'd be seeing some gun control.

(34 posts)Has been that way since the Hughes amendment in FOPA. I live in a rural southern state where there are tons of gun owners and have never seen an automatic weapon or knew of someone who owned one.

(101,322 posts)The suspect who identified himself to police as 50-year-old James Boulware was shot by a sniper at around 5 a.m. in a parking lot in the Dallas suburb of Hutchins, where he was holed up inside an armored van, Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown said at a news conference Saturday morning.
At 5:07 a.m., our SWAT snipers shot at the suspect through the front windshield of the van, striking the suspect, Brown told reporters. Since that time, we have sent the bomb tech robot, that has a camera, to try and confirm whether the suspect is deceased.
Brown said police are not approaching the vehicle until they can confirm it is not rigged with explosives. The suspect had told police negotiators that he had C4? explosives in the van, he said
