U.S. policeman who shot dead boy 'feared for his life'
By AFP 23 mins ago in World .

The Cleveland police officer who shot dead a 12-year-old black boy seen waving around a replica gun was "distraught" and acted out of fear for his life, according to an official report.

It comes two days after a judge ruled the two police officers involved should face criminal charges over the death of Tamir Rice in November -- a time of heightened racial tensions in the United States following a series of fatal incidents involving black men and boys.

Rice was fatally shot after police responded to a 911 call that someone was waving around a gun in a park. It turned out to be an airsoft gun and the boy died of his injuries a day later.

The chaotic immediate aftermath was revealed after prosecutors released the results of a police investigation into Rice's fatal shooting at the hands of police officer Timothy Loehmann.

The way it reads is that the policeman shot at a dead boy because he feared for his life which is ridiculous.

All the killings of poc are tragic but I can't watch the video anymore. How can a person be a cop and be so scared he'd kill a child? The law does not protect everyone, it protects the people with the power.

He's 10, he's black and he just got the end of year best student award at school. He belongs to the science club. He didn't miss a day of school and never missed a homework assignment. He's a cub scout and loves outdoor activities. He volunteered at relay for life and several other activities.
One thing he enjoys is whittling. He's good at it. He makes little things for us. My husband had a really nice knife his father gave him. When my husband was dying he wanted my grandson to have the knife, which I gave to him. But we're afraid to let him carry it.

However, why is it that it is always the police, who
claim to be afraid for their lives, yet the dead victims
cannot answer to their far greater fear of the
armed and "trained" police, because their
voices don't count anymore??

What a farce and idiocy rules, when the armed
claim fear of the unarmed.

So many cowards in the police - and so many dead children, youth and grown up, as a result of that cowardice..... If police officers are so afraid of their life - why the **** are they in the line of duty then? - If they have so much issue going to work and fear for their life, why then not quit the job - and take a job as a janitor somewhere where they can be safe...?

They use the "fear of my life" card to excuse the in-excusable - and I do hope the officers in this case will not get away with it - and put on trial for murder - 1 degree murder as they never gave the boy any chance to lie the weapon down.... Before they shoot - they are just simple murders with an uniform and should be treated like that - criminals

It was 3 seconds from the time of the stop to the time of the shot. There wasn't even a "drop the gun" uttered from the cop. If he was so bloody fearful, he should have remained in his patrol car (with the doors locked) and called for reinforcements. He's a lying idiot who should spend the rest of his life in jail.

I believe he did fear for his life as his partner drove up right next to someone who was reported to be pointing a gun at people. Why the FUCK did the not newbie cop do that? He put his partner, the shooter, in danger by doing so IF the gun were real. I mean, seriously. WTF.

Drive up right next to him? The driver needs to be penalized for his actions.

The shooter should never have been in the position of needing to react appropriately in a situation like this as he was incapable of reacting correctly. If they'd stopped a distance away, even then he may not have reacted correctly. But stick him up next to someone he was scared of before they even arrived? Recipe for disaster. He needs to be penalized for his actions beyond being distraught.

"He said (Rice) had a gun, and he reached for it after he told him to show him his hands"

Bull. Shit. There was no time for Tamir to hear, interpret, react. When did he "tell him to show his hands"? As they were driving up? Yelling out the window? Bull.

Finally, why the HELL did they not administer any sort of first aid? Why was it up to an FBI agent who showed to do that?

Blatant disregard for his life.
