Hillary Clinton Takes A Stand On Trade - Kind Of

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton isn't helping President Barack Obama salvage a free trade agenda that congressional Democrats are on the verge of wrecking.

But she's also not taking a position on the trade promotion authority bill, which is crucial to determining whether the linchpin of Obama's trade effort -- the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership -- ever gets done.

The Democratic frontrunner -- purposefully or not -- conflated the two issues in her most extensive remarks yet on trade during a Sunday rally in Des Moines, Iowa. She also implied she'd drive a harder bargain on both than Obama has.

"No president would be a tougher negotiator on behalf of American workers, either with our trade partners or Republicans on Capitol Hill, than I would be," Clinton said.

famously called the policy "coddling dictators" in his DNC speech in 1992.

then, as soon as he took office, Bill flipped and became all for "free" trade, making the Chinese totalitarians the recipient of permanent most-favored nation status.

Not to mention NAFTA and GATT.

I don't trust the Clintons on this issue, no matter what they say. Hillary as president would just be another corporate globalization shill.

You are either for this "deal" or you are not and any one that voted for this TAA:

"Jim Dean, chair of Democracy for America, said in a statement, "Ahead of today's votes we wanted to be very clear to Democratic members of Congress: If you vote for either Medicare-cutting Trade Adjustment Assistance legislation or Fast Track Authority for the job-killing Trans-Pacific Partnership, we will not lift a finger or raise a penny to protect you when you're attacked in 2016, we will encourage our progressive allies to join us in leaving you to rot, and we will actively search for opportunities to primary you with a real Democrat."

How disgusting is this? Why would anyone who calls themselves a Democrat vote for someone who so obviously is hedging their bets and saying as little as possible just to get elected?

I've fallen for this fancy footwork before. "Fool me once..." a past president once proclaimed "shame on you. Ya fool me, I can't git fooled again!"
I swore I'd never embrace my elder's cynicism when I hit old age - I've found out it ain't easy.

We want out of these unfair trade agreements that are destroying our rights in the workplace, exporting our jobs, degrading the world's environment and harming workers all over the world.

These trade agreements with their trade courts in which corporations enjoy standing and we don't as individuals are harming us and insuring that the American dream we have enjoyed will not be there for our children and grandchildren.
