Israel has claimed the Israel Defence Forces operation in Gaza last summer was a moral, defensive war conducted in accordance with international law.
The publication on Sunday of a report written in conjunction with Israeli government ministries was timed to occur days before the release of the findings of an investigation by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) into possible war crimes by Israel and Hamas.
The UNHRC report, with which Israel refused to cooperate, is expected to serve as the foundation for the Palestinian case against Israel in the international criminal court, which is due to be submitted on 25 June.
Israels report highlights efforts by the IDF to avoid harm to civilians and presents the operation as an imperative necessity in response to incessant rocket fire from Gaza and the threat of Hamas infiltrating through its tunnels.

(46,330 posts)They refused to mention Hamas and other jihadist groups using schools and hospitals to launch attacks, and all those terrorist rockets.
It's always "The Palestinians can do no wrong."

(46,330 posts)Israel just had a gay pride parade.
In Gaza, being gay is against the law.
Palestinian media still calls all Jews "pigs" that should be "driven into the sea." And applauds terrorists like the two who attacked a synagogue.
Israeli media has no anti-Palestinian propaganda anywhere near like that.
Hamas is a dictatorship, the way the Arafat ran the PLO.
Corrupt and brutal, dissenters are lynched.

(50,254 posts)Israel and Gaza aren't in a "coolest country" competition.
And Israel isn't attacking Gaza in the name of social liberalism or the fight against bigotry.
Israel is attacking Gaza because the Israeli government wants to make sure a Palestinian state never happens and that the status quo in Gaza and the West Bank never ever changes.
Nobody here is saying that Hamas is run by saints. At most, it's been said that, for the war to end, Hamas has to be included in the negotiations, because it can't be "crushed" or made to go away, and because even if it were possible, crushing Hamas could only lead to something worse replacing it, and because excluding Hamas from any negotiating process would mean they'd just go on fighting, making any "agreement" with anyone else utterly worthless.
You have to get "buy-in" from everybody who has guns if you want the guns to stop firing.
