New York convicts may have rehearsed their escape route at night, DA says

Source: CNN

(CNN)Two murderers meticulously planned their New York state prison break, possibly sneaking out of their cells under the cover of darkness to rehearse their escape in tunnels, authorities said.

Richard Matt and David Sweat planned to drive seven hours in the night to a predetermined location, together with the woman who allegedly helped them, said Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie.

But Joyce Mitchell, who allegedly provided them with the tools to cut through prison walls, got cold feet and decided not to pick them up, he said.

Mitchell told investigators she planned to run off with the men after picking them up last week near a manhole where they'd emerge from a network of tunnels, Wylie said.

They still haven't been caught, but at least there doesn't seem to be a trail of dead bodies. -none Jun 2015 #6

She did not want to be their next victim.

Good thing her gut instincts kicked in. Though it was terrible that she helped them to begin with.

Lookin' for love in too many faces
Searchin' their eyes, lookin' for traces
Of what I'm dreamin' of
Hopin' to find a friend and a lover
I'll bless the day I discover,
Another heart- lookin' for love.

They haven't been seen recently and nobody's house has been broken into. Either they're incredibly resilient and can survive in the wilderness indefinitely, or they were completely unprepared and are probably dead.

They were going to meet someone at that seven hour point. They contacted that person and he/she picked them up

With so much planning, you know they thought of everything and had a plan B. The guard did smuggle in a cell phone to them.

They were seen in a mans back yard the next day. A house was broken into. I believe they are still in the vicinity. This Ritchard Matt is a very tough guy. Has a history of escape from several prisons. The Mexican Govt gave him back to us because he was such a difficult prisoner. An extremely dangerous person he will probably kill David Sweat before long. I think they are probably camped out in some cave. Matt grew up in a similar area he knows how to live in the wild.
Neither one has any cash so who would help them ? Anyone who knows Matt is terrified of him. I think they should keep searching.
