600 million Samsung Galaxy phones exposed to hackers
Source: CNN
Every Samsung Galaxy device -- from the S3 to the latest S6 -- has a significant flaw that lets in hackers, researchers have discovered.
The vulnerability lives in the phones' keyboard software, which can't be deleted. The flaw potentially allows hackers to spy on anyone using a Samsung Galaxy phone.
You can be exposed by using public or insecure Wi-Fi. But some researchers think users are exposed even on cell phone networks.
Researchers at NowSecure, a cybersecurity firm, say they told Samsung (SSNLF) about the vulnerability in November. Seven months later, nothing has been fixed. That's why NowSecure made its findings public on Tuesday.

(4,452 posts)When I quit working in 2002 I gladly walked away from my cell phone never to look back or wish I had one just for emergencies. Every day I thank Dog that the land line is there and I don't need a phone that does a million things but nobody on the other end of a conversation can understand what I say.

These days with noise cancelling you can flush the toilet and they don't know you were talking from the can.

(10,998 posts)It was fun stretching it far from the base to a secret talking place. Then the cord would get all knotted up and I became the phone cord untwister. Those were the good old days.

(16,191 posts)While you can't uninstall the Swiftkey keyboard included in the Galaxy, the hole becomes moot if you quit using it. I personally use Touchpal, but I've used Swype in the past and it's really good too. Both can be pulled off the market at no cost, or you can pay a few bucks to get the better versions.

(24,701 posts)"Part of the incredibly long delay to fix this problem is due to the way phone manufacturers work with cell phone carriers like AT&T (T, Tech30), Sprint (S), T-Mobile (TMUS) and Verizon (VZ, Tech30). Samsung could race to create a fix, but people must wait until carriers get around to distributing them.
This fractured system causes frequent complaints from users, who must patiently wait for all new software: everything from new features to patches for dangerous computer bugs."
Verizon ------$5.1 billion first quarter,
AT& T ------- $8.8 billion (2014)
T-Mobile-------$6.3 billion (2013)
Samsung----------$5.5B operating profit for Q1 2015
Now we get to wait for the to big to fail oligarchies to fix this privacy issue while the information about us is being sold for millions and all we get to do is file a paperwork to the credit bureaus, while our credit takes a dive and our privacy is robbed, and the proverbial sorry letter------------don't ya just love it-----------
