Eying millennial vote, Clinton pitches apprenticeships

Source: CNN

Charleston, South Carolina (CNN)With her eyes on the youth vote, Hillary Clinton pitched a plan in South Carolina Wednesday that would incentivize apprenticeships and promised that she would roll out a plan on college affordability within weeks.

She proposed a $1,500 credit to businesses for every apprentice they hire, and that the program would hold business accountable for their apprenticeship program. The apprenticeships would be registered with either a federal or state program that would ensure standards were met.

During the speech, Clinton highlighted the 2014 bipartisan plan from Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, a Republican who hails from North Charleston, and Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, a Democrat. In 2014, the duo introduced the LEAP Act, a plan that would do exactly what Clinton plans to do: Provide employers with a tax credit when they hired apprentices.

1. I like these sort of plans, so long as they are implemented correctly and have oversight

You know, to avoid exploitation and to make sure these are real apprenticeships that benefit the students, and not just something that turns into a way for the companies to save a few bucks somehow.

Any idea if that was allowed due to no attempt at oversight, or if it's just too hard to have effective oversight that prevents such things?

I'm sure it will be filled with tons of unpaid interns working their butts off. If she's fielding all these donors and will be raising billions of dollars, maybe she should pay the people who are working to elect her? Instead of giving all the money to consultants and paying for ads?

Hopefully she'll set an example, otherwise it's just pandering.

not to the individuals.

And it just means more cash for business to hoard, not to hire anyone.

way such a scheme would work is to give the money to the employer and require them to pay it out to the worker. But if it works and some how revives the job market for young workers, the democrats will not lose another presidential election in this life time.

We had a population well-trained in manufacturing, but the jobs are no longer here.

To me, tax credits are republican economics. College should be free, as should trade school. I don't think she has spoken to any millenials before she came up with this. We don't really exist anyway, so why should anybody ask what we actually want? I have no idea why she would think Millenials want more tax credits to go to businesses rather than to them in some way.

My daughter had a tough time finding a job because all of those experienced people who were laid off were taking entry level positions. My daughter was not even considered. You need experience to get a job and need a job to get experience. With on-line resumes, many times they do not have a place to list the volunteer work, which would show a work ethic.

An apprentice program would be a great idea, allowing the younger generation to gain experience and resume fodder.

In looking at the negative posts regarding this idea, I have a feeling there is nothing Clinton could do that would not garner DUWrath.
