Roof Roommate Says Charleston Suspect Planned Shooting For 6 Months

Source: Talking Points Memo retelling of ABC News

The roommate of the white, 21-year old man who allegedly massacred nine people at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina said Thursday that he thought the suspect had been planning the attack for about six months.

Dalton Tyler told ABC News that he'd known Dylann Storm Roof for about seven months to a year. Tyler told the news outlet that he last saw Roof about a week ago and knew he'd been planning something like the Charleston church attack "for six months."

“He was big into segregation and other stuff,” Tyler told ABC News. “He said he wanted to start a civil war. He said he was going to do something like that and then kill himself.”

A court clerk confirmed to ABC News this afternoon that Roof waived extradition in North Carolina and is cleared to return to South Carolina.

Many states have laws forbidding such to own guns - post conviction
(weird how some let you keep the "pre"conviction weapons).

It seems Dylan's father had to know about his son's conviction.

Hence, the dad is guilty for buying the kid he gun.

The dad did not buy him the gun, the initial report was incorrect.

Dylann Roof bought it himself with birthday money, and passed a background check. Roof was not a convicted felon. The pending drug charge is a misdemeanor, not a felony.

Lots of bad information out there.

You are describing a case in which someone hears an off hand comment, the OP describes a case in which a person lived with the perpetrator and was listening to him plan the actions over a six month period. It is much easier to prosecute someone who spent six months listening to someone planning this sort of act than it is to prosecute someone who hears an off hand comment.

I'm sure he didn't believe that Roof was going to actually do what he was talking about. If you thought your roommate was going to commit mass murder, I think you'd get a new roommate.

Now if he did know that it was a serious intent and the cops can find any evidence pointing to that, then the roommate is in for a substantial prison term. I am sure he will be investigated.

I mean, compare this to the Eric Sheppard case - no one believed Sheppard was serious:
http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/05/flagstomping_fugitive_eric_sheppard_threatens_to_kill_police_whites_and_others_in_manifesto.html

And you know, Sheppard wasn't serious. They were right. Almost no one of this age ever IS serious. Lots of stuff is said. Most of it is just rhetoric.

Roof, now Roof was very serious.

.... he said that Roof had repeatedly talked about 'shooting up a school' ... but "we never thought it would be a church".

So apparently a school was a fair target but a church wasn't, in his mind.

What amazes me is how few have acted out, with the hatred that is rained down on folks betwixt and between.
