MLB Cancels More Than 60 Million All-Star Votes for Fear of Improper Voting

Source: Bleacher Report

Major League Baseball has wiped out more than 60 million votes for the 2015 All-Star Game amid fears of improper voting techniques.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports the number of accepted votes is still greater than 300 million.

...snip...

The voting procedures have come under extra scrutiny this year with the Kansas City Royals completely dominating the projected American League lineup.

Members of the Royals occupied eight of the nine starting spots for hitters in the latest update, as noted by Aaron Gleeman of Hardball Talk. The only exception is Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, who owned an advantage of around 2 million votes over Kansas City's Alex Rios.

4. They have to limit all star voting to 1 vote per person

How they do that I know not, but that's why the commissioner makes the big bucks.

5. All-star balloting is the stupidest thing ever

To say that there is improper balloting is a joke. I've been at the ballpark when the ushers come by and just hand a fistful of ballots to anyone who comes anywhere near them. You're allowed to go online and vote as many times as you want. This has been going on for years.

8. Well they don't let you vote as many times as you want

After I voted, they said I could vote a total of 35 times.

So it's not unlimited.

Assuming one is smart enough to create an unlimited number of email addresses they can get an unlimited number of votes.

7. Go back to having the players choose the All Star team.

This is how it used to be done. A player could vote for a specific number of all stars but could not vote for himself. It's turned into a carnival with undeserving players getting voted on the team because they are 'popular'.

10. I think they should put a code on the game ticket

Each code entitles you to 1 vote for each position in the AL and NL.

That way the only people who can vote are those actually going to the games.

12. The reason they abandoned that method was lack of fan interest in the All-Star game

The problem I have with the whole process is that the winner of the game gets home field advantage in the World Series, which was a rule also implemented to increase fan interest in the game. If that's the case, then they need to develop some method to make the process fair between leagues and not subject to ballot stuffing.

The baseball All Star game is the only one of the major sports that is actually a real game. The others are not played at full speed for fear of injury. I don't understand why people have to vote to be interested, the game itself is enough.
