Dick Van Patten is Dead at 86
Source: ABC News
Actor Dick Van Patten died this morning due to complications from diabetes, his publicist confirmed to ABC News. He was 86 years old.
"He was the kindest man you could ever meet in life," his rep, Jeff Ballard, said. "They don't make them like him anymore."
Best known for playing patriarch Tom Bradford in the series "Eight Is Enough," Van Patten most recently appeared in a 2011 episode of "Hot In Cleveland." In the past decade, he also appeared in "Arrested Development, "That '70s Show" and other programs.
"I like to do TV series. I think they're so comfortable. You're doing the same part every week," he once told Emmy TV Legends. "You're working with the same people and there's a lot of recognition. I like to do series best. I really do."

(46,193 posts)Dick Van Patten was one of them. He exuded warmth and humanity.
When Diana Hyland, who played Joan (his first wife on "Eight is Enough" , died of breast cancer in 1977, you could feel his grief that wasn't just acting.
I will really miss him.

Even years after the show ended he acted like a father to many in the cast, especially with Adam Rich in his addictions. I remember his going with Adam to support him as he checked into rehab...again.
RIP, sir!

(16,386 posts)The WITNESSED seizures have decreased from about one every six weeks to two in one year. We think it was all the grain she was getting in the other stuff, but who knows. Congenitally deaf dogs are susceptible to seizures. I agree with you 100% about the quality of the food. No question.
