Univision drops Miss USA pageant over Donald Trump’s comments about Latinos
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS
NEW YORK (AP) Univision says it is dropping the Miss USA pageant and says it will cut all business ties with Donald Trump over comments he made about Mexican immigrants.
The network said Thursday it will not air the July pageant and has ended its business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which produces the Miss USA pageant, due to what it called insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants by Trump, a part owner of Miss Universe.
During his presidential campaign kickoff speech last week, Trump accused Latino immigrants of bringing drugs, crime and rapists to the U.S. He called for building a wall along the southern border of the U.S.
Trump says he was only criticizing U.S. policies concerning Mexico, not its people. He says Univision is in default of a five-year contract.

(1,986 posts)But your post makes it look like you are being sarcastic the value of free speech for Trump. Wasn't that your point?

(376 posts)Your comment has nothing to do with the conversation you are in, which is whether Mr. Trump should have free speech.

Univision also has a free speech right to refuse to be associated with putrid racists.

(13,614 posts)In a country as large as the US, anyone can get "some votes." But don't forget a couple of things:
1. His "announcement event" was completely staged, complete with actors as "supporters."
2. He hasn't filed any paperwork to actually become a candidate and it is expected he won't. In other words, his "announcement event" was merely a publicity stunt.
won't we.

Smackdown!
Today the entertainment division of Univision Communications Inc. announced that it is ending the Companys business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which is part-owned by Donald J. Trump, based on his recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants.
At Univision we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country. We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization.
Univision News and the local news division will continue to provide comprehensive coverage of all candidates, including Mr. Trump, to ensure our audience continues to have access to all points of view.
