Maine House members launching push to impeach LePage
Source: Bangor Daily News
AUGUSTA, Maine Six lawmakers said Thursday they will attempt to launch impeachment proceedings against Republican Gov. Paul LePage for his alleged role in pushing Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves out of a new job at Good Will-Hinckley School.
Independent Reps. Jeffrey Evangelos of Friendship and Ben Chipman of Portland and Democratic Reps. Pinny Beebe-Center of Rockland, Lydia Blume of York, Roberta Beavers of South Berwick and Charlotte Warren of Hallowell told the Bangor Daily News on Thursday they are exploring disciplinary action against LePage, including impeachment.
Im asking my fellow legislators to study abuse of authority, conduct unbecoming and possible misuse of public assets, said Evangelos, who is leading the effort. I believe that Gov. LePage has violated his authority by intimidating a private entity with the end objective of violating speaker Eves civil rights, his ability to seek outside employment and provide for his family.
The House of Representatives has sole power of impeachment according to Article 4 of the Maine Constitution. The Senate has the sole authority to try all impeachments. Impeachment requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate.

(2,741 posts)Maine is the "laughing stock" of the country, I couldn't quite agree...I mean LePage is a terrible governor, but Maine will have to get in line behind South Carolina...and lots of other states...for the "laughing stock" honours...

(9,999 posts)Maine, you seem like such a beautiful state - I can't wait till I can vacation with you. Hope you are successful in getting rid of the only thing I know of to put you on that list - your Governor. (I know how that feels - we here in PA had to endure Gov "Fracking" Corbett.) Look forward to visiting you soon - hopefully with a new Governor deserving of all your other attributes.

(14,881 posts)and he still hasn't released the funds. He held them hostage once to his demands, and now he's holding the hostage a 2nd time to more demands. One of which is to log the *protected land* to provide fuel heating assistance.
He's pushed the state to initiate a new law that *requires* funds to be released with only 2 exceptions for possible delays (one if a better interest rate is forthcoming and the 2nd if the release would cause Maine's credit rating to drop).
He is so horrible. It is so depressing that Gov. 38% ended up there a 2nd time. Imagine governing as if you have a mandate...with 62% of the people voting against you

It's getting more and more obvious that LePage should be out of office and receiving psychiatric care.
