Buckwheat Zydeco says Jindal using his music at campaign event 'not cool'

Source: KATC

Buckwheat Zydeco, the Lafayette-born Zydeco legend who's gained national and international fame, is not pleased that his music was played at Gov. Bobby Jindal's presidential announcement event.

Buckwheat's music was among several songs that played at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner before Jindal and his supporters took the stage, Gambit Weekly reported while live tweeting the event.

The zydeco musician replied to Gambit on his own Twitter page and said that Bobby Jindal using the music of Buckwheat and his band is "not cool at all."

He had much kinder words for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who strutted on stage to launch his presidential bid with Buckwheat's "Make A Change" playing in the background.

He's even more blunt on Twitter tonight:

@buckwheatzydeco 6h6 hours ago
You don't represent us, #BobbyJindal. Don't use our music. You've been a disaster for Louisiana.

Looks like Pat Boone and Ted Nugent are the only musicians the GOP can use without pissing someone off.

They think they're catchy tunes free for all to use and half the time they don't even understand that the lyrics are anti-conservative.

Well, it may be a bit late for that ... most of us already have! But I'm sure he wouldn't object to ANY Rethuglican using "Cat Scratch Fever", or any of Ted's alleged "music" at their campaign events. Heck, Beave, I bet he'd be pretty happy if somebody (ANYBODY) played one of his CDs at home, or even in their car.

Ain't gonna be ME though.

Buckwheat Zydeco is a great man and a great ambassador of zydeco music.

Let's have another round of applause for the wonderful musicians who care for other people and spread the universal language of music.

If they really wanted to avoid being called out publicly by the musician, they'd check the rights first and get clearance. They get extra press, posts, tweets and visibility by the cycle of criticism and pull downs that goes wide across many parts of the web.

In wing-nut circles, a conservative doesn't suffer by being rejected by liberal artists like Neil Young, Buckwheat Zydeco, Drop Kick Murphys etc . It tells the base you're cool enough to know the music, but those PC types are such wusses - They can't deal with a principled conservative.

I'm suspicious.

But not enough to know the meaning of the songs.

So much wrong with using Keep on Rocking in the Free World or Born in the USA.

I started catching his shows at Antone's club in Austin in the '80s.

Last saw him at the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Festival three or four years ago.

I wish he'd come to the Cotati Accordion Festival this August. I'll be there.

What would happen if their campaign just took over some random venue for their event? no lease, no insurance, no security, no contracts ? They would be kicked out, arrested for trespassing.

Buy your venue music republicans! ask the owners of the music, stop stealing!

at a public event as long as they pay the required nominal ASCAP public performance fees (like the music playing in your grocery store).

Using the music in commercials or webcasts though, would be a different story.
