Random House is moving up the publication date of journalist Ta-Nehisi Coatess new book on race relations in response to the Charleston shooting and a wave of interest in the book spurred by comments from David Remnick, John Legend and others.

We started getting massive requests from people for advance copies, said Christopher Jackson, executive editor of Spiegel & Grau. It spoke to this moment. We started to feel pregnant with this book. We had this book that so many people wanted.

Ive been wondering who might fill the intellectual void that plagued me after James Baldwin died, Ms. {Toni} Morrison wrote. Clearly it is Ta-Nehisi Coates The language of Between the World and Me, like Coates journey, is visceral, eloquent and beautifully redemptive. And its examination of the hazards and hopes of black male life is as profound as it is revelatory. This is required reading.
