After saying he wants to shoot cartoonist, LePage accused of threat to lawmakers

Source: Bangor News

AUGUSTA, Maine — A day after Gov. Paul LePage told a group of high school students that he would “like to shoot” a Bangor Daily News cartoonist, a top advocate for expanding passenger rail to Lewiston-Auburn said that LePage earlier this month said state lawmakers from Lewiston should be “rounded up and executed in the public square.”

Tony Donovan, a Portland-based real estate developer and member of the executive council for the Sierra Club Maine, said Thursday that LePage made the statement during an hour-long meeting in LePage’s office at the State House on June 8.

“Maybe I didn’t hear right, but I’m pretty sure I did hear right,” Donovan said. “He was pretty vulgar and said he thinks the entire Lewiston delegation should be rounded up and executed in the public square. He did say that to me.”

Donovan said LePage seemed particularly angry with Rep. Peggy Rotundo, D-Lewiston, who is also the House chairwoman of the Legislature’s budget-writing Appropriations Committee. Donovan said LePage’s vulgarity was aimed largely at Rotundo.

do it and get away with it.

They feel entitled to their right to execute their perceived enemies. Why do you think 'stand your ground' laws are so popular with them? They want the right to shoot people they hate and claim they were in fear and HAD to shoot.

They want to impeach him for that stunt where he threatened the charter school if they hired one of his "enemies" -- after they already signed a contract with the guy.

He needs to GO.

Someone in the Maine legislature needs to bring forth impeachment charges to put crazy right wingers on notice that this type of speech will not be tolerated. What an asshole!

I can't seem to copy/paste (again... grrr!) but The Bangor Daily has an article about several state legislators who are currently pursuing impeachment against LePage.

There is also a poll next to the article that currently has 76.77% in favor of impeachment.

Edit: MADem upthread has the link.

How, exactly, did someone like this get elected in the first place?

I'm not referring to his politics. Lots of states have a far-right-wing nutjob in the governor's residence.

I'm referring to his demeanor. He comes across as a middle-school bully. He's petty, vindictive, and classless.

Surely, even those who share his policy opinions would prefer to have someone who acts like an adult in that position.

---

I've just learned that he wasn't just elected once, but twice. Wasn't his immaturity evident the first time? Who would watch someone who behaves like this and vote for him again?

And though they are a minority, they still love the guy and his antics. In fact, I think they like him even more for it. Ugh!

Otoh, he is the first R Maine Governor in over 25 years (having been elected under unique circumstances). I think he'll be the last for a long time to come. At least I hope so!

The last 2 brought the yahoos out of the woods and they voted for LePew.

dem candidate ended up really being the spoiler. She was never above 20%. It was LePage 38%, Cutler 37%, forgethername 20%, and 5% split across or 4 other also rans.

The last time Cutler never broke 20% and LePage had the same 38% who doesn't care how much damage this psycho-clown does to the state. Hopefully the results the last time will convince Cutler to go away.

By a Harris County (Houston) Assistant District Attorney, while handing out flyers for NORML in front of the Houston jail that "people like you should be shot". He was waiting to cross the street. I very conspicuously stared at him, looking hard at him up and down. When he asked what I was looking at I said "I just want to make sure I can identify you if I have to". His face went white and he crossed the street as soon as he got the pedestrian crosswalk signal.
