A union advertising campaign targeting Gov. Bruce Rauner will hit the airwaves Monday in Springfield.
The commercials are paid for by Service Employees International Union Healthcare Illinois and focus on the Republican governor's proposed spending cuts for in-home care for the elderly. The union is hoping to reach moderate voters who have previously supported home health care and child care.
"Showing the authentic and very real personal stories of people affected by Gov. Rauner's choices is part of our strategy because we know that the people of Illinois want to see these programs preserved and that the Rauner agenda is highly unpopular," James Muhammad, SEIU Healthcare Illinois' vice president, wrote in an email.
Rauner announced June 2 that he was shrinking the program to save the state money, but critics said it would increase costs by moving people into Medicaid-funded nursing homes.
