The Secret Service says it will install sharp metal spikes on the White House fence after intruders scaled it twice in less than a year.

In a news release, the Secret Service and National Park Service say the spikes are a temporary security measure until a long-term solution is found.

Installation begins Wednesday and is expected to continue for about six weeks.

The final design for a permanent security improvement will be submitted in the fall to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and National Capital Planning Commission.

There's even the old canal keeper's house still there.

Oh, cool thought: the christmas tree could be hydroponic!

3. I wonder why this isn't a long term solution.

Not expensive enough?

Or maybe the long term solution is putting white people back in the white house. That might cut down on the loony intruders...

W had some incursions too.

I think they'd rather have something that doesn't risk dripping blood on the rose garden...

I do not like the symbolism of surrounding the seat of our highest office with spiked fencing.

running almost to the Oval Office before he could be stopped. What if he had had a gun? Or a suicide vest?

Apparently a long time ago you could also just wander into the White House.
