Former CNN correspondent, anchor survive motel gunfight
Source: KOAT Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A former CNN correspondent was shot three times late Tuesday night during an attempted robbery at an Albuquerque motel.
A former CNN anchor and her husband survived an armed robbery attempt-turned-gunfight Tuesday night, and friends of the couple say the offender messed with the wrong people.
Former CNN anchor and Manzano High School graduate Lynne Russell told Action 7 News she and her husband were robbed at gunpoint at the Motel 6 near Coors and Iliff around 11:30 p.m.
Her husband, Chuck de Caro, worked as a correspondent for CNN as well.
Russell said they were exhausted Tuesday night and decided to go to a motel to rest. She went out to the car to get something when a man put a gun to her head, dragged her back into the motel room and demanded her valuables.
Her husband grabbed his gun and the two exchanged gunfire. Russell said the suspect fired first.

(22,000 posts)For me a Super 8 is about the minimum and even then some of those are pretty crappy too.

(18,470 posts)I stayed at one in Montana. I wasn't getting a good vibe at that place and the room stank of cigarette. (I grew up in a family with some smokers so in most cases it doesn't bother me but the room just reeked of cigarette. Even the shirt I slept in had a cigarette odor).
I did stay in a Super 8 before hand and compared to the Motel 6 it was a five star luxury hotel.

The biggest reason i stayed is i talk the dog on a business visit. They have a VERY pet friendly policy. No upcharge, no deposit.
He spent one evening and one day on the big bed and was happy as could be. Then we got in the car and drove home.

(250 posts)She was an anchor on the old school CNN Headline News from the start (when they still had news) and she has at times been a private detective and sheriff's deputy. So, ex-CNN anchor most likely to end up in a shoot-out?

(19,477 posts)As I remember, she was one of the ones CNN dumped when it changed gears and tried to emulate Fox.

(2,672 posts)A friend of mine moved to Albuquerque because he found a job there and within three months, he was burglarized twice. He said that despite the high paying job, he wasn't going to put up with crap like that, so he moved back to Austin. He also said he witnessed a carjacking while he lived there.

Seems like a long time ago.
