Tesla tops 11,000 vehicles delivered in second quarter
Source: AP
Tesla's second-quarter deliveries surged 52 percent to set a company record exceeding 11,000 vehicles.
The Palo Alto, California, electric car maker surpassed 10,000 vehicles for the first time in the first three months of the year and on Thursday said it had broken that record, delivering 11,507 vehicles.
Tesla makes only one car, the Model S sedan, but CEO Elon Musk said last month he expects to begin deliveries of an SUV, the Model X, in three or four months.
Tesla cautioned Thursday that record deliveries are not an indicator of overall financial results. The company has consistently lost money as it ramps up production. Despite record sales in the first quarter, the company lost $154 million.

(2,479 posts)That Toyota Camry's were the cars most made in America, at 75% of all parts. Another Toyota was second, and there were two GM cars, and one Ford on the list, I think. Corvette, and one of the trucks were from Chevy.
That's kind of tragic, isn't it.

(16,296 posts)There is a lot of pro and cons on electric cars. However, I am hopeful that the electric car will be the car of the future.

(2,479 posts)No need to just hope. It would have already been, had it not been for the oil lobby on the industry.
See "Who Killed the Electric Car."

(16,296 posts)electric cars were once very competitive with gasoline driven cars back in the early days. Rockefeller and oil companies killed that early industry and attempt as did their limited driving distances and high cost. The first electric car:
"The invention of the first model electric vehicle is attributed to various people.[1] In 1828, Ányos Jedlik, a Hungarian who invented an early type of electric motor, created a small model car powered by his new motor. In 1834, Vermont blacksmith Thomas Davenport built a similar contraption which operated on a short circular electrified track.[2] In 1835, Professor Sibrandus Stratingh of Groningen, the Netherlands and his assistant Christopher Becker created a small-scale electrical car, powered by non-rechargeable primary cells.[3]"
Alas, the need for speed spelled it's doom, even though an electiric car held a speed record up to 1900.

I know they test drove a couple other vehicles, I remember they were looking at the Audi A7, but I can't remember the others.
There's a couple of Tesla's in the parking lot at work. I'm envious, but then I remember my Tiguan is paid off.
