Rick Santorum: All Undocumented Immigrants Come Here With 'Bad Intent'

Source: Crooks and Liars

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum declared over the weekend that all undocumented immigrants had "bad intent" when they came into the United States.

Speaking to CBS host John Dickerson on Sunday, Santorum said that he disagreed with Donald Trump's assertion that Mexico was sending "rapists" across the border.

"The vast majority of people coming legally from Mexico and other places are people who want to do the right thing," Santorum observed. "People who are coming illegally obviously are coming with a bad intent. Let's just be honest, they coming with the clear intent of breaking the law."

There was actually a decent documentary about the Alamo on recently, one of those 'You think you know history, but...' sort of shows. The people at the Alamo were not actually simply slaughtered, after they surrendered, quite a few were able to simply leave. And, iirc, the only reason there was a big fight there anyway was because some officer disobeyed orders, and decided to make a 'heroic' stand, rather than pulling everyone out early, like they were ordered to. If he'd not been a jackass, no one would have died there.

Conflating appropriate border security measures with the issue of dealing with those seeking work has been a favorite tactic of the right ever since 9-11-2001. Scum---S-C-U-M.

What we need is a sane immigration policy that allows people who are already here a path to stay so they can work and pay taxes. Plus, the idea of ripping apart families, letting children stay here while their parents are deported is (or should be) abhorrent to every sane person.

Sun Jul 5, 2015, 11:33 PM

I used to work for a company that hired many Hispanics. Most were not US citizens, but they had to have a social security card and a "green card". How easy is it to get fake ID? Really easy.

There were a few times that prospective employees had obviously fake ID. I brought it up to the manager. He said all we were required, legally, to do is to make a copy of their SS card and green card. They pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, but if they aren't citizens or holding a valid green card they will never get SS or Medicare benefits. No, they don't pay much income tax because the jobs are low paying and they are often supporting families.

Now an employer can check the validity of employees ID online, BUT THEY AREN'T REQUIRED TO. Are there lots and lots of federal employees in the INS who go around and confirm workers eligibility? Yeah, right. After all, going into businesses like chicken processing, landscaping, etc and hauling off half their hard working employees is seen as ANTI BUSINESS.

If the GOP really wanted to stem the flow of undocumented workers across the Mexican border, they would punish employers severely and often. Until they do that, they're just blowing smoke.

Remember Meg Whitman's run for governor of California!

SAN JOSE, Calif. | Revelations that Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate for governor in California, employed an illegal alien as a housekeeper for nine years have made waves in a tight campaign here.

At a news conference in Los Angeles with celebrity attorney Gloria Allred by her side, Nicky Diaz Santillan accused Whitman of laughing at her when she asked help obtaining legal status in June 2009, a few months after the former eBay CEO announced her intention to run for governor. “She treated me like a piece of garbage … as if I were not a human being.”

Whitman denied that account. Speaking to reporters gathered for a campaign event at Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley, Whitman said “No one could have been more stunned than I was when she came to us … and said ‘I’m not here legally.'”

They should have either been paying the employers part of Social Security and Medicare, as well as withholding the maid's SS, Medicare and taxes for the IRS. Even if she was an independent contractor, they should have given her a 1099 and filed it with the IRS.

So, as you say, they are blowing smoke.

TRASH the Brand!!! Just like The Donald!

Keep talking!

TRASH THAT BRAND!!!!!

This is what we want! And NEED! Pretty soon the GOP brand will be so soured that the "ice" will have gotten on everybody on that side of the aisle. They won't be able to wipe it off, either. It'll get on all their clothes and their skin and seep into their pores and they won't be able to wash it away, or get around it. It'll cling to them like the stench of a long-lasting fart. Like that really horrid hormonal and seriously thermonuclear cat piss smell.

The subliminal seepage if this guy and The Donald keep it up will do permanent damage. It will overlay a kind of dingy dirt over all GOP they see. There will be guilt by association. That will seep down-ballot, too. If you don't know who the local or regional candidates are, and who stands for what, all it'll take is seeing an "r" by their name and it'll be a very slight, unconscious, below-the-radar instinct of "eeeeeuwwww." Very slight, but it may be enough to tip enough of 'em over - either to NOT voting (remember, poutrage is just as familiar a thing over on that side of the aisle as it is anywhere on ours), or maybe even over to our Dem.

Okay - and here's another thought. THE WAVERING VOTER. When you have, OR ENCOURAGE, wavering among voters, when you wean them away from lock-step GOP, when some of this shit has started to get to them, when they may have been turned off just enough, when you destabilize the enemy, or chew into just enough of their foundational supports, they may not be so instinctively wired to just automatically hit the "r" button. MAYBE they're just really not sure this time. Maybe they're hard on everything else and they're anti-choice or they're hot for another war or something - BUT they just really hate what they saw in Charleston and don't want to be part of that anymore, or they themselves have thoroughly moved on from the GOP's narrow view of marriage and/or are in no mood to defy the Supreme Court ruling. There could very well be a few - or more - of THOSE voters who wind up standing alone in the ballot box and thinking it over one more time - and then it suddenly occurs to them, "hey, I could ALSO make history - voting for the First Woman President." And THAT would be enough to tip the scale over to us Democrats.

Now, mind you, I'd expect that some Bernie supporters would chime in at this moment with "... I could ALSO make history - voting for the First Socialist President." Indeed, that could well be true. HOWEVER, the "socialist" label is still too poisoned. Unreasonably so, in my opinion. ALL such labels and brands on the left side of the aisle have been thoroughly and deliberately and systematically trashed - for the past 30-40 years!

We are JUST NOW starting to turn opinions around on the "liberal" label. Only Just Now. ONLY NOW is the very noun "liberal" being rehabilitated - it's no longer such a dirty word. But that evolution has taken awhile, and is going to take awhile longer before it completely recovers and most if not all of the CON-applied taint is gone. We haven't even begun to start turning opinions around on the word "socialist." I think that would be a MUCH harder scale to tip. If "liberal" was a loaded word, then "socialist" is an anvil the size of the Rock of Gibraltar. It's still just too heavy a lift at this point.

Besides, as of now, for the vast majority of the electorate, I'd suspect the idea of "First-Woman"-anything is no big deal anymore. Seems to me most Americans have finally come around to that - it's no longer unthinkable, no longer threatening, no longer NOT an option, no longer NOT a viable concept, no longer implausible, no longer still off-the-table. And we've had a First Woman Speaker of the House by now, too, plus two women who ran as major party running mates (although sarah palin is too much of a ding-dong even to compare to Geraldine Ferraro).

So to rick santorum and The Donald, too - Keep Talking!!! Keep Talking, BOTH of youse, and all your little friends!!! TRASH the brand.

Please make it so that people automatically, unconsciously, reflexively find themselves thinking about "Mexicans are rapists"-"immigrants are criminals"-"immigrants are only here to break the law" whenever "republi-CON" or "GOP" pops into their heads! We want their whole general over-arching brand to take on a stink the scope of a thousand landfills!

committed to playing games in the GOP primary, vote in the GOP primary (and run-off) for the candidate in 2nd place. That's what Rush Limbaugh advised when Obama and Clinton were running against each other in the 2008 primaries. The objective being to deliver for the opponent's party the weaker candidate for their ticket. I don't think that is as effective as voting for your candidate in the DEM primary, trying to deliver a strong candidate for the DEM ticket.

I did switch once, though. In our county, mostly Republicans run for local offices, often unopposed, so the only real vote is the Republican primary. I once switched just to vote for a good guy running against an incumbent, then switched right back. The good guy won the primary, but the incumbent ran as an independent and won. I'll never do it again. Besides, I can't wait to vote for Bernie in our local caucus.

I'll die a Democrat. Realistically, that's what we've got. I wish we had 10 major parties that competed in elections, but I don't think I'll see a change in my lifetime. I've voted Republican once for a good candidate, for our state senate about 20 years ago, and then for the county assessor a few years ago when the "independent" won.

Official Mexican response to Trumps gesture will be to welcome the new Mexican citizens saying that they can keep the funny flag that the Americans have taken away and to honor the millions of new naturalized Caucasian citizens Mexico will name the new state, Dumbfuckistan.
