House cancels vote amid fight over Confederate flag

Source: The Hill

House GOP leaders canceled a vote Thursday on a spending bill for the Interior Department amid an intraparty split over the display of the Confederate flag.

The vote was cancelled after the House moved to hold a vote later on Thursday on an amendment undoing a ban on displaying the Confederate flag in national cemeteries.

Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Calif.) offered that amendment late Wednesday night, triggering a furious blowback from House Democrats who ripped Republicans over the issue.

“That racist, divisive flag of slavery, segregation, and secession is not an appropriate symbol to sell or fly in our national parks and cemeteries run by the National Park Service,” House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said in a statement early Thursday.

If there was ever a place to have this material, it would be a historic battleground or cemetery.

Because that's where this shit belongs - history.

2. Irony: A racist, divisive flag of a failed racist nation is dividing a failed party of racists.

Remember the Tea Party? They still live. No one seems to want to mention it much any more, but they still live.

Toxiplasmosis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasmosis).

It apparently makes rats act totally irrationally, even against their own survival instincts.

I've also read that it does infect humans and might be a reason for irrational behaviors. If so, we should show some pity and sequester them (the rats and infected congress-critters) in a nice, secure, quiet place for the rest of their demented years.

someone actually wants to now ALLOW the confederate flag to fly in national cemeteries, when it is currently banned?

What a total asshole.

10. The GOP's base is very small, thus you'll see more of this nonsense.

In a way, this is the same pandering being done by the likes of Trump. Since the GOP base gets smaller by the day, their rhetoric becomes more and more detached because it has to appeal to it. It's also why the GOP won't be winning many national offices in the future outside of the gerrymandered House.
