Hillary Clinton To Present 'Economic Vision'

Democratic front-runner to speak Monday at the New York City's New School.

Hillary Clinton will lay out her economic agenda in a major speech Monday that will set the tone for more detailed policy announcements this summer and much of her messaging through the rest of her presidential campaign.
The Democratic front-runner's choice of venue may be telling: She'll be delivering her address in Manhattan's Greenwich Village neighborhood at The New School, a university whose economics department takes a decidedly leftist tilt. Her campaign announced the speech with a press release promising that Clinton would be offering an "economic vision" and a "framework for an economy that grows faster, fairer and more sustainably."
The speech comes as several of Clinton's Democratic rivals are staking out emphatic positions against major financial interests. Former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley on Thursday issued a white paper that made detailed policy recommendations aimed at cracking down on Wall Street. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont has made confrontation with the "billionaire class" his campaign hallmark.
...............................
And despite having been a beneficiary its campaign donations in the past, Clinton also has focused some of her fire on Wall Street, especially when it comes to executive pay and capital gains tax rates. The nations top 25 hedge fund managers "make more than all of Americans' kindergarten teachers combined and often paying a lower tax rate, she often says on the campaign trail. ................

(34,589 posts)present any evidence that Hillary is other than vague; the only tool you turn to is a personal attack.

(70,238 posts)why would I have any evidence of vagueness at this point. Yet you are more than willing to be critical of her-- for an article that is just an announcement of her upcoming speech. Enough said!

(17,469 posts)that the entire speech will be long on nice sounding generalities and absent specific policies. She can't upset her Wall Street funders.

She isn't an unknown and it is so hard for the leopard to change its spots.
It would be a fun exercise for us to write the speech on DU, right now, and see how close we get!

(22,271 posts)Manny is a well-loved person by those who understand the difference between policy proposals and vague talking points written by a half-dozen speech writers after conducting several focus groups to determine how she will "lead."

(6,280 posts)I prefer to form my own opinion after the fact, and not let someone else do it based on what they think a person might say. The thread is about a speech she has yet to give.
"I'm one of them". See, my post was spot on, and that your friend is well loved has zero meaning to me. Thanks for your reply.
Le Taz Hot
(22,271 posts)that is not disrespectful to a valuable, long-time, well-respected DU member.
quickesst
(6,280 posts)If you believe it was that disrespectful, and if you believe you can speak on his behalf, there is always the alert tab. Perhaps you'll get lucky and end up with a majority of the right people on the jury. I've been curious ever since 2004 about the experience of a hide anyway. Or you could grow some thicker than tissue skin. Either way.

(22,271 posts)This was your original statement: "There are many who will admire your keen powers of precognition . . ." As one who is one of Manny's admirers, I was answering for myself, so, fail.

(387 posts)Now who would pay $2.5 billion to elect her? Who has $2.5 billion? So far, 90% of her contributions come from 10% of her donors. So we already know what her economic policies are going to be, now don't we? Whatever will benefit that 10%, or more accurately, 10% of that 10%. Guess who that is.

(697 posts)Did she raise a stink? Did she persuade others to vote no? Did she make it a big issue? Did she lead?
Or did she vote "against" the tax cuts using the classic politician's ploy of first making sure they would pass, then voting against them for show? The old I was for them before I was against them routine.
Seeing her donor list, my opinion is that it was all show.

And nothing that could possibly come back to bite her in the ass in the event she is nominated and has to turn around and trash "the left" yet again.

(697 posts)Given her "follow Pelosi" (and cave?) comments, I'll be interested to see what she has to say about the TPP. Will she bring it up? Will she address why she was almost mute on the subject?
My expectations are for a bunch of empty "middle class", "working Americans" platitudes with no detail. It's what she does. We've seen this play over and over ad nauseum. She simply oozes politician speak.
My opinion is that she rarely, if ever, makes the hard choices and, if she does make a choice, they are most often the wrong choices.
Feel free to correct me on the hard choices she personally took the national lead on. Then explain her IWR vote to me.
I'll be glad to listen.
Change my perspective.
It would have been a pleasure to vote in the first female President. Too bad Sen. Warren chose not to run.

I hope I'm wrong, but the last two decades shown that to be the case.

(2,412 posts)Will she keep dressing like she is running the fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and dare to wear that stuff at The New School? There are so many comments here about anticipating her behavior. I guess it is unfair, but many here have seen her behavior over the years and are not expecting anything new and authentic. I will watch the speech but am loathe to believe anything she says after that Iraq War vote and her failure to divorce Bill, I was done long ago.

(29,322 posts)is the banks and investment services are shifting the money to the GOP side, health insurers as well. So whoever is the Democratic nominee will have more of an incentive to serve the people with all the business interests going to the other side though not sure why Hospitals & nursing homes are too, probably administrators though I don't see how they help. If I understand that sector has seen an increase in jobs?
Hope she is serious though, we need to stop the bullying of countries to accept disaster capitalism. We need to put people first across the world.

(12,655 posts)what percentages should the different brackets pay in taxes?
what does she want the minimum wage to be?
how big (as in dollars of assets) is too big for a bank before it needs to be broken up?
tpp: yes or no?
what does she think is a fair ratio of ceo pay to worker pay?
will she ever support publicly funded elections?
these are all very specific questions with very simple and short answers. Bernie has already gone on the record on all of them. I want to know exactly where Hillary stands on all these questions and more.
