Biden: Next Fight Is LGBT Discrimination

Source: The Daily Beast

NEW YORK — Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday that anti-discrimination legislation for LGBT people is the next battle to fight after the Supreme Court effectively legalized same-sex marriage. "There are 32 states where you can be married in the morning and fired in the afternoon," he told a crowd at an event hosted by the Freedom to Marry group. "This next door is gonna be a hell of a lot easier to open." In addition, he called the total fight for LGBT equality "the civil rights issue of our generation." Biden told the story of his father seeing a gay couple and telling him "they love each other, it's simple." Evan Wolfson, the founder of Freedom to Marry who interned for Biden in the 1980s, credited him with stopping Robert Bork's nomination to the Supreme Court in 1987, which gave way to Anthony Kennedy's nomination. Kennedy was the deciding vote and author of the majority opinion in the same-sex case this month.

was special to him on a personal level. Good to have something positive after losing his son. Also makes me like him even more, and the reminder about Bork, whew. So many cases would turn out differently now. It'd be like having another Scalia sitting up there.

Thanks, Joe!!

I posted yesterday that it may finally be time for an ERA- and I think everyone should be included in it.

even in an America with a GOP Congress and GOP state governments

The reactionary demagogues will be all be out in force but it's hard
to see how the issue of repeal generates energy

REPEAL ACA!

PUT UP THAT FLAG OF HATE!

PREVENT LGBT MARRIAGE WITH A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT!

Repealing ACA? What to have higher deficits? To hurt the poor? To reduce
profits of insurers and the medical profession? Their only argument is based
on economic inequality - don't pay for benefits for the lowest, make them
work. Work at what? There are jobs?

Amazingly their arguments surrounding the historical significance of the
Confederate Flag have been weak. It was a way their ancestors lived
and reflected their world view, it was an economic institution of oppression.

Now, let's isolate people who are in love, because our marriages are so stable,
if lacking intimacy and happiness which results in divorce 57% of the time. Let's
prevent LGBT marriage, and stop their benefits, and shield our children from reality
so they can become 'phobes like us!

VP Biden has been a common sense, mainstream rock solid intellect for 45 years. He
always honed his credibility, and despite gaffes at his own expense, was an anchor
somewhat left of center through thick and thin, particularly on foreign policy. The
middle always holds in the long run.

Hope they can do something about inner city jobs and redevelopment and enterprise.
Our cities need communities that thrive economically.
