Thousands of people have been stranded in Bali with all flights in and out of the Indonesian island cancelled until 9.30pm (11.30pm AEST) on Friday due to plumes of volcanic ash.
The director general for Air Transportation in Indonesia ordered five airports to close on Thursday night because of dangerous ash particles from Mount Raung.
Mount Raung, located in the province of East Java about 150 kilometres from Bali's airport, is an active volcano which has been spewing lava and ash for several days.
The other affected airports are Lombok international airport, Selaparang airport and domestic airports in Banyuwangi and Jember in East Java.
