US agency: Deaths show DuPont has 'failed' safety program
Updated 12:32 am, Friday, July 10, 2015

LA PORTE, Texas (AP) — U.S. regulators on Thursday took DuPont to task for a massive gas leak last year that killed four workers at a plant in Texas, placing the chemical company in its "severe violator enforcement program" and saying the accident shows it has a "failed safety program."

The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration said the deaths were preventable and revealed hazards that undermine the company's claims of a world-class safety culture.

The agency had previously cited the company for 11 safety violations related to the November deaths at the La Porte plant and on Thursday announced an additional eight offenses, including three "willful" violations. The agency has proposed penalties of $273,000 for the new violations.

OSHA also placed the Wilmington, Delaware-based company in a program that scrutinizes employers that show "indifference" to creating a safe workplace. The decision means DuPont's La Porte plant will be subject to follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with the law, federal officials say.

just imagine how many more deaths would occur with out the "terrible" constraints of government
Are you conservatives ignorant or just don't give a damn about human life as long as it isn't your life
that is dying?
And to the "jury" my last comment is the reality of the situation not unreasoned hostility

This accident follows the same pattern of BP's Texas City explosion of March 23, 2005, and the explosion and oil spill of April 20, 2010. These companies are sucking every dollar for dividends and bonuses while spending nothing on safety and maintenance. The vent fans were disassembled on the roof of the building FOR YEARS!
DuPont is fighting to start it back up now before they have the ventalation system finished, though they were just told that it's not happening.
This pattern exists because unions are toothless, regulatory agencies are run by insiders and their budgets starved to the point that they cannot do their intended job, and the executives know they won't be prosecuted. This is what living under Republican rules get you!
