Footage released of a young black man attacked by police officers who was ‘terrified he was going to die’

Philadelphia Police have launched an internal investigation after a video is published showing the brutal treatment of Tyree Carroll

Friday 10 July 2015

New video has been released online showing the brutal treatment of a young black man who was arrested in early April in Philadelphia.

Police allegedly pulled over Tyree Carroll for cycling on the wrong side of the road before being grounded to the floor. The video shows that eventually a dozen officers are at the scene.

Despite Carroll appearing to offer little threat, officers repeatedly punched and kicked the 22-year old for five minutes, according to the full length version of the video.

The family spokesperson, Margaret Prescord, told CBS News that Carroll bit a police officer during his arrest because as an asthmatic, he was concerned of the chokehold he was under and the pressure put on his chest made it difficult to breathe.

We have to wait on the effing Independent on another effing continent to report something that happened in our own backyard before our local media provides a token gloss of coverage.

That's where the white privilege and institutional racism reside.

As has been said before, the US's greatest and unmatched products are from the entertainment industry. This obviously includes the M$M.

Before you say "They committed a crime, they should go to jail" remember that the officers have the RIGHT not to INCRIMINATE THEMSELVES, just like any other criminal. Thus the officers can NOT be forced to testify and it is up to the DA to prove what they did was Criminal.

Under non police law, everyone has a duty to retreat and avoid a conflict. To this general rule the Police have long held an exception, for they job is to KEEP THE PEACE, even if that means the use of force. Thus the police are permitted to use force unless it is excessive and the only people who generally sees the excessive force is other police, who are often participating in the excess force. i.e. they ALL committed the crime and thus all of them can claim the RIGHT NOT TO INCRIMINATE THEMSELVES.

This Video does show violence to the victim, but what is the context of the abuse? The victim can testify, but the law MUST assume the police will say otherwise even if the Officer takes the fifth (The right NOT to incriminate yourself includes the right that any JURY or other fact finder, MUST assume the defendant, in cases like this the police officers, would, if they decided to testify, testify that they had good reasons for what they did and it was NOT excessive force or abuse).

The Police use this "Police Exemption" and the right "Not to incriminate oneself" to get out of most cases of Police Brutality. The only way to FORCE an officer to testify is to give him immunity from prosecution.

Once officers have the immunity from prosecution taken away from them, then they can be FORCED to testify. If they lie under oath they can be prosecuted for that crime. The big factor is, it opens them up to being fired, termination of employment is NOT criminal punishment, liability for they actions etc., for the simple factor you can FORCE them to testify and once you have them on the stand, get them to admit what they did was beyond law enforcement standards.

The key is get them on the stand, FORCE them to say what happened, and get them terminated from the police force for the use of excessive force. It is more important to get these officers out of the Police Force then to get them in jail.

Thus immunity should start in any grand jury investigation of the case. Any officer who takes the Fifth, should be granted immediate immunity and forced to testify anyway. In many ways, that testimony can not be used against the officer who gave that testimony, but can be use against all the other officers (Thus officer "A" gets immunity so what he said can not be used against him, but what he said about officer "B" can be used against officer "B", and what officer "B" said about officer "A" can be used against officer "A" even of Officer "B" was also given immunity).

The person's whose testimony is most needed is these cases are the other officers, give them immunity to force them to say what happened.

Sorry such abuse MUST end and the only way to end it is to get these officers out of the police force. That is more important then jailing these officer for the crimes they did. If we can NOT remove them, they will stay on and commit more crimes, thus removal is more important than any criminal punishment.

their first priority in the ranks, immunity or not. The rest has been 'splained' before and I say, yeah, yeah, yeah,.....sigh... This type of behavior is protected police behavior in 99% of these type cases. Been through too many of these summary judgements and executions to feel you really have a handle on things.

How much blood needs to cover cops before there is some action to disband them?

Underground Railroad. They need to change their name to City of Hateful Police. Everyone of those officers should be fired and they need to be more picky about who they hire back - no KKK need apply.

Once again we see the police wasting their time on little petty crimes. Using violence on unarmed people simply because of the color of their skin. Wonder how much it cost the taxpayers for the time spent by all those officers on one non-criminal? And how many real criminals were busy doing their thing without interference?

I hope this young man sues the hell out of the city because that is the only way they will feel the pain and stop hiring a bunch of cowardly bullies.

were outnumbered. God! Why do they allow this shit to continue. Have they no power at all. No fucking excuse to look the other way. Cowards. To me, they are the same as the "police" that swept into the Townships like Soweto and took part in that type of activity to maim, kill and destroy their own people. I'm not going to stay quiet about this type of irresponsibility and malfeasance anymore. Total overhaul of the policing-justice system in this country. So far Bernie Sanders is the only candidate to address that possibility as a national policy.

Every time this type of fascist-racist behavior happens, breakdown of races present of the policing forces will be a focus.

Just like POC have to stop shooting and killing each other over silly, stupid things, our police officers got to start manning up and quit letting this shit get a pass. Shows me the real power of WHITE PRIVILEGE IN THIS COUNTRY.

Do they not serve at our pleasure? Do we not pay their salaries? Are not other social services harmed when huge payouts are made for these kind of egregious actions (which hopefully there will be)? When do we get to say no more? When do WE get to decide who gets a badge and a gun??
