Egypt explosion hits Italian consulate in Cairo

A large explosion has hit the Italian consulate in Egypt's capital, Cairo.

An official has told the state-run news agency Mena that the blast was caused by a car bomb. No group has yet said it carried out the attack.

The explosion on Saturday morning has wounded five people, including two police officers, medics at the scene told AFP news agency.

Egypt's public prosecutor, Hisham Barakat, was killed last month by a car bomb attack in the city.

some conflict with the Italians? Were they making a statement? Or was this just senseless destruction?

The US, UK and French Embassies in Cairo are like armed bunkers.
