First on CNN: Sources say MH17 report blames Russian missile for shooting down plane

Source: CNN

(CNN)It's been nearly one year since 298 people were killed after a commercial passenger plane broke up over the Ukraine.

U.S. officials concluded Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was struck by a missile and shot out of the sky. A final report from investigators has yet to be released but CNN has learned new details from the draft investigative report for the July 17, 2014 incident.

Dutch accident investigators say that evidence points to pro-Russian rebels as being responsible for shooting down MH-17, according to a source who has seen the report.

According to the source, the report says it was a Buk missile -- a Russian surface-to-air missile -- that was used, launched from a village in Russian rebel controlled territory.

that Kyiv was using passenger jets as human shields to fly their own fighters in the shadow.

The plane was diverted by Kyiv air traffic control from its usual and customary route so that Ukrainian fighter jets could be launched without fear of being shot down.

The plane traveled at a speed that far exceeded the the speed of the Ukrainian fighters and it flew higher in the sky. The former means that only for a short interval of time could one be directly above the other.

In hindsight, internationally they should have rerouted all air traffic away from the area. However, even a short time before no one considered the rebels either flew planes or could hit something that high.

it is for a radar. The Kyiv people wanted the separatists to not fire because they would be shooting at a passenger jet.

The fighter jets travel a LOT faster than a passenger plane and can easily hover over passenger traffic to fool the radar.

Kiev didn't want to change the standard flight route so they could fly their fighters on the same route safely. This made it extremely difficult for the radar operators to discern friend from foe.

any modern radar could have easily distinguished the two and the physical separation would have made a missile engagement against the fighter easy.

MH17 was flying in unrestricted airspace, its engines running normally at 293 knots at 33,000ft (10,000m) cruise altitude
Three other commercial planes were flying over the same airspace at around the same time - the closest 30km (18.5 miles) away
12:53GMT: Dnipropetrovsk air traffic control (ATC) asks MH17 to climb to 35,000ft according to flight plan and to avoid other planes
MH17 says it is unable to comply and ATC agrees it can stay at 33,000ft; other traffic climbs to 35,000ft
13:00: MH17 asks to divert 20 nautical miles to left, due to weather; ATC agrees but refuses permission to climb to 34,000ft
Isolated thunderstorms were apparent in the area with some lightning strikes south-west of Donetsk
13:19:53: MH17 flying 3.6 nautical miles north of centreline of airway
ATC asks MH17 to alter route to "proceed direct" to waypoint Romeo November Delta due to other traffic
13:19:56: Last MH17 crew transmission: "Romeo November Delta, Malaysian One Seven" - confirming flight path

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-29122816

So the plane asked to be on the path it was on. It diverted because of weather. Your claims of diversion because of Ukrainian fighter jets are made up bullshit, and, since 298 innocent people were killed, highly offensive. Fuck know why you want to make excuses for murderers, whoever they were.

They're a tool of the empire.

CNN has called Kiev (capital of Ukraine) both Ulan-Bator (capital of Mongolia) and Lugansk (city hundreds of miles east), and they also say Ukraine is somewhere near Pakistan and India. Calls Syria Afghanistan. Places Hong Kong in South America, calls Pennsylvania New York, puts Tripoli in Lebanon, misplaces Missouri, Alabama, and Mississippi all on the same map, puts Iraq in Europe, moves Cambodia to Africa, and calls Florida Cuba. And that's just in geography.

Anyone who trusts CNN is a fool...

I never heard of any of these -- and they are all strange enough to get attention. Therefore, I would like some links. If not to CNN itself, as they would have (and should have) corrected the mistakes. However, there would be links to screen captures or real time comments on this.

I suspect this is complete BS .... and it has nothing to do with the facts that the pro-Russian rebels shot down the plane. This always seemed most likely - especially as they had claimed downing a fighter jet soon after the attack, which was subsequently scrubbed. For both Russia and the rebels, a better path might have been to own up to the mistake and take responsibility.

MH17 tribunal would be counterproductive: Putin tells Dutch PM

Moscow (AFP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday told Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte that establishing an international tribunal to prosecute those behind the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over Ukraine would be counterproductive.

"Vladimir Putin in detail explained the Russian position regarding the premature and counterproductive nature of an initiative by a number of countries, including the Netherlands, to establish an international tribunal to criminally prosecute individuals responsible for the destruction of the Malaysian airliner," the Kremlin said following a phone call between Putin and Rutte.

The Netherlands -- whose citizens made up the majority of the 298 people killed when the plane was downed a year ago over rebel-held eastern Ukraine -- is working with Malaysia, Australia, Belgium, and Ukraine on setting up an international tribunal.

A draft UN resolution, obtained by AFP, calls for establishing the tribunal under Chapter 7 of the UN charter, which means that the court's efforts to prosecute those responsible could be enforced by sanctions.
