Geographical put-downs, whether of a city, a state, a part of the country, or an online entity, cause more harm than good. The people you don't like don't care what you think, the others who are not like them are offended. I agree that some people in DC, like the GOP and Third Wayer types, are disgusting.

Reddit has 1000s of subs that are VERY nice - liberal, nature, trees (weed ), justice, love and hate - most of them are very good and respectful.

It's like saying San Francisco is the anus of the US--or Detroit, or New York or Dallas or Seattle or Kansas City. Reddit is like a large city. Don't go to the bad parts unless you want to be there. I've been on Reddit for several years, and I've never seen the kind of garbage being referenced here. I know it's out there, but I don't go to those subreddits. I go to some of the other several thousands of subreddits where hate isn't spewed.

Each subreddit is its own entity. Certainly the music instrument subreddits that I follow are moderated, and don't put up with any sort of toxic bullshit.

That said, it would be nice if they would purge outright hate speech clearinghouse subs like the one in the OP.

They're just racist trolls with no life, they'll be swept out and fall into 4-Chan (the asshole of the internet) soon enough.

If they want to be known as something other than the cesspool of the internet, they need to bad the filth. Add serious moderation of content and people won't see it that way anymore.

I haven't had much use for them in years, it's been a festering pit for a lot longer than it's been in the news, but I'm alright with the line where it's drawn. You don't have to look at CoonTown or Spacedicks and they're gonna congregate somewhere..
