Manhunt underway in northern Penobscot County after four people shot
Source: Bangor Daily News
LEE, Maine Police are searching for Anthony Lord, 35, of Crystal and Houlton in connection with the shooting of four people in northern Maine.
Lord is 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs 263 pounds, and has blonde hair and blue eyes. Troopers also suspect he has a stolen a pulp truck and are asking the public for help in locating either Lord or the truck. The pulp truck is a 2010 maroon Peterbilt with green lettering on the side saying McCarthy. The Maine commercial plate number is 631745, and the truck has an orange colored pulp boom. Anyone with information on Lord or the location of the truck is asked to call state police in Bangor at 973-3700. Lord is considered armed and dangerous. The four people were shot in Lee, Benedicta and Silver Ridge, state police said.
This is a very active scene. State police are searching for the suspect in Lee, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said.
McCausland expects to release more information as it becomes available.

(135,425 posts)It has two county seats, too, the southern seat is Houlton (where the county jail is). Houlton is right next to the Canadian border in the lower part of the county.
As you can see, too, Penobscot is very long and has a distinct northern and southern aspect.

(14,881 posts)So given the option, I'd prefer he stay at the northern end of things.
Seems like with that truck he should be pretty easy to spot.

(5,402 posts)Timber trucks are as common as regular 18-wheelers.
My bet is that he is out in the woods along one of the thousands of unmarked tote roads that lead into the working forests. These roads are on no maps because the paths change from season to season as the foresters shift to different properties for harvesting.
He'll show up soon enough.

(111,316 posts)He must be a drinker, he looks a lot older than 35, even accounting for the fact that nobody looks good in a mug shot unless he brings his makeup guy and photographer along for it.
I hope the people he shot survive. I also hope he's put away until his testosterone drops far enough he's no longer a danger to women, children, or anyone else.

No idea about the people he shot; they still haven't released anything about their conditions or identity.
THe woman he was with was a hostage. She's ok, I think...as much as you can be after such an ordeal...
dam...edited to add see post25 below. 2 dead, 1 beaten, 5 total shot.

(18,124 posts)that a very slow collapse of empire is, internally, underway. I could be wrong, but given that history is replete with collapsed empires and the reason(s) behind that collapse, well................. Racial injustice (Trayvon Martin to Sandra Bland recently), economic inequality and injustice(7.50 an hour wages) since Nixon and opening the of the door to China labor pools are but two of the ongoing disparities that are flagrant and stark examples in their impact on poor and minority communities and people. 300,000,000 million guns in the hands of citizens with some type of grudge doesn't help empire either.

(14,881 posts)I was going to guess drug deal gone bad, but on reading the article this seems more likely related either to his being a sex offender or the recent death of his 6 month old son which has been under investigation since early May.
But other than that, yeah I agree with you.
edited title to shootings; just realized they haven't released conditions of the victims. Also found he has crime and dui history going back to 1999 and domestic violence in recent months.

(22,974 posts)And perhaps most disturbingly, even as violent crime overall has declined steadily in recent years, rates of gun injury and death are climbing (up 11 and 4 percent since 2011) and mass shootings have been on the rise.

(22,974 posts)And while the number of firearm homicides dropped dramatically over a 20-year period ending in 2011, the percentage of violent crimes involving firearms has stayed fairly constant, according to the 2013 survey. In other words, even when fewer people die from gun violence, violent crimes involving guns are still happening at the same rate. It's also true that as the gun homicide rate has declined in the United States, suicides now account for the majority of gun deaths, according to Pew.

Gun deaths in U.S. projected to rise to 33,000 in 2015
A similar analysis by Bloomberg three years ago found shooting deaths in 2015 "will probably rise to almost 33,000, and those related to autos will decline to about 32,000, based on the 10-year average trend."

How he expects to avoid detection while driving a maroon pulp truck with green lettering on the side, and an orange boom, is beyond me.
Guy looks like a tweaker in the photo.

Not putting you down, just pointing out that the whole idea of blaming someone's social identity - instead of the actual person - is what's broken...selection bias makes it seem like it's only the other guys who practice it.
