Pro-Israel lobby backs group to fight Iranian nuclear deal
Source: AP
A powerful pro-Israel lobby is backing a new political group that on Friday launched a multimillion-dollar campaign to oppose the nuclear pact the United States recently made with Iran.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is supporting an independent action committee called Citizens for a Nuclear Free Iran, dedicated to preventing Iran from obtaining the capacity to obtain nuclear weapons.
Spokesman Patrick Dorton said Friday that the group is launching a national TV and digital ad campaign in many media markets around the country.
"Democrats should be especially concerned because the deal increases the chances of war, will spur a nuclear arms race and rewards an Iran with a horrific human rights record," Dorton said.

(59,506 posts)J Street has been in favor of the negotiations since they began and now supports the deal. In addition they supported the effort to get a 2 state solution.
The days when American News monolicically supported Israel through AIPAC ended long ago. In addition, it is not even fair to say that AIPAC just blindly supports Israel. It supports Israel when Israel is led by Likud.
Yes, just as there are rich non Jews supporting the right, there are some very rich Jews, who at least on Israek, lean right.

(10,650 posts)It is becoming very partisan with AIPAC allying itself strongly with the right. Netanyahu's speech in concert with the republicans was a travesty. The more partisan they make it, the more Democrats will reject our indefensible policy of unquestioningly backing Israel.
Israel is not a US ally in any meaningful sense of the word. Israel, to US goals, is often a major liability. It is time to end that.
