John McCain: Donald Trump doesn’t owe me an apology

Source: WashingtonTimes.com

By David Sherfinski - The Washington Times - Monday, July 20, 2015

Sen. John McCain of Arizona said Monday he thinks businessman Donald Trump doesn’t owe him an apology but that he might owe an apology “to the families of those who have sacrificed in conflict and those who have undergone the prison experience in serving their country.”

Mr. McCain said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that he personally is “in the arena” and said what “a great honor of my life it was to serve in the company of heroes — I’m not a hero.”

“But those who were my senior ranking officers, people like Col. Bud Day, congressional medal of honor winner — those [that] inspired us to do things that we otherwise wouldn’t have been capable of doing — those are the people that I think he owes an apology to,” he said.

Mr. Trump said over the weekend at an event in Iowa that Mr. McCain, a prisoner of war in Vietnam for more than five years, was a hero “because he was captured” and that “I like people who weren’t captured,” later clarifying that he does consider Mr. McCain to be a hero.

But as you say, frustratingly small glimpses are seen of him.

I don't despise him the way I do a lot of the others. I think he sold his soul for a shot at power and it really buried any of the good parts of him.

I disagree with him on almost everything politically. but I wouldn't lump him in with the likes of Cruz, Trump, Santorum, etc.

Hence the lag between Trump's insult and McCain's response. John's PR people had to fine tune his reaction.

Just his role in the Keating 5 scandal is enough to send him to hell--not to mention all his other sins. John's support for Lincoln Savings cost the taxpayers and future taxpayers over $800B. It takes more than a well-advised remark to make up for that.

Trump says horrible outrageous things.

McCain responds with a retort about Trump "firing up the crazies".

Rather than just pointing out McCain's hypocrisy (aka Sarah Palin), he goes off on a rant about McCain's military record.

McCain decides (currently) not to feed the other troll.

It's all theater.

John McCain showed some class. Lordy, lordy.

btw: There was no way I would have actually watched 'Morning Joe' or read the Washington Times. I'll have to get better with that.

Trump insulted not just McCain but anyone who's ever been taken prisoner in war.

His comments were indefensible.

Can Trump BE as brash and stupid in his private moments as he is when there's a camera around??? He should be destitute and reduced to begging for quarters if he conducts his businesses like this!

Bankruptcy (as relates to corporations) is nothing more than legalized stealing. I've been through it with a former employer, they loaded up on raw materials and contractor services then BOOM - sorry, can't pay you. Those poor people had no choice but to accept pennies on the dollar for what they were owed.

Trump has done the nearly impossible and took a casino into bankruptcy - THAT has to be pretty damned difficult when people walk in the door ready to hand you money. But it was all well and good because corporate bankruptcy (stealing) is legal.

In the Republican Party, attacking someone's service can be acceptable, if you do it to win a race. - case in point -

Years ago - McCain said - "Putting pictures of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden next to the picture of a man who left three limbs on the battlefield -- it's worse than disgraceful. It's reprehensible," (McCain told CNN, about the ad run against Max Cleland).

- So what does McCain do -

Despite his disgust, the Republican Party marched on, smearing and mocking Vietnam War Heroes like John Kerry - and the Swift Boat Ads - eventually, John McCain put his revulsion aside, and campaigned for Saxby Chambliss, and George W. Bush.

Palin for VP - indeed John...therefore I will always be disgusted by your decision making.....

....John McCain owes THEM an apology:

- the MIA-POW families who were blocked, in the Senate Select Committee on MIA-POW Affairs hearings in 1992, in their efforts to get information and recognition for missing soldiers, almost single-handedly, with anger and vehemence, by Senator John McCain.
This, after their bill passed the House 400-to 0.

-The families of POWs who needed access to the debriefing records to clear their names for suspicion of aiding the enemy, but were blocked, again, largely by McCain (they were all pardoned by President Nixon)
