First Half Of 2015 Was Hottest Ever Recorded

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Earth dialed the heat up in June, smashing warm temperature records for both the month and the first half of the year. Off-the-charts heat is "getting to be a monthly thing," said Jessica Blunden, a climate scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. June was the fourth month of 2015 that set a record, she said. "There is almost no way that 2015 isn't going to be the warmest on record," she added.

NOAA calculated that the world's average temperature in June hit 61.48 degrees Fahrenheit (16.33 Celsius), breaking the old record set last year by 0.22 degrees (.12 degrees Celsius). Usually temperature records are broken by one or two one-hundredths of a degree, not nearly a quarter of a degree, Blunden said.

And the picture is even more dramatic when the half-year is considered. The first six months of 2015 were one-sixth of a degree warmer than the old record, set in 2010, averaging 57.83 degrees (14.35 Celsius). The old record for the first half of the year was set in 2010, the last time there was an El Nino — a warming of the central Pacific Ocean that changes weather worldwide. But in 2010, the El Nino petered out. This year, forecasters are predicting this El Nino will get stronger, not weaker.

"If that happens, it's just going to go off the charts," Blunden said. June was warm nearly all over the world, with exceptional heat in Spain, Austria, parts of Asia, Australia and South America. Southern Pakistan had a June heat wave that killed more than 1,200 people — which, according to an international database, would be the eighth deadliest in the world since 1900. In May, a heat wave in India claimed more than 2,000 lives and ranked as the fifth deadliest on record.

So we should just shut up and drown in the rising ocean.

Then the poster is obviously saying it exists because the poster is receiving large amounts of Soros money
The real scientists who know the truth are the unbiased ones working for the oil and coal industries
Oh... and the one's receiving Koch money

We never have brown lawns on the wet side of the mountains in July.

And the heat is too much for us. We keep looking for rain.

In another century, the world will be ungovernable, thanks to climate change and income inequality. Also violence. I will try to do what I can to work for and support policies that matter, but all I expect to hear about is Donald Trump and the likes of him, as we spiral ever downwards. Hoping Bernie can pull it off, but the Kochs and their ilk wield far more power, sadly.

At least I remember coming in when the streetlights came on, the Civil Rights movement, no microwaves, video games, and three or four TV stations. The Age of Innocence. Long over.

I'm a Boomer as well, but growing up for me was tough. However, what's coming around the bend is frightening, and I fear for the future of my children and grandchildren. Yeah, I hear you loud and clear.

My autistic 6 year old will be 18, and that should maximize his chances of getting through it all. His sister is 10, and his autistic brother is 14. She's the caregiver and peacemaker who can keep them together.

I've been in IT for 25 years, but there won't be much need after civilization "resets". Eventually plan to visit BikeSchool.com to have some skills, and continue my sewing.

That may not sound serious to you, but it is way up here - we regularly get warm weather in summer but the 90's in late June? Nope. Never happens.

Now it's rainy, thank heaven, first decent rain we've gotten this year. And cooler, about 60 at night, 70's during the day.

We never get decent snow anymore. The Iditarod keeps moving north (started here in Fairbanks last year, no snow in Anchorage/Wasilla/Willow)...............

expected to keep building to perhaps a to Strong El Nino which will set up a spilt flow over PNW - causing NorCal, OR and So WA state to Not get badly needed Rain...again this winter.
I understand we are rapidly approaching "Moderate El Nino" status.
We humans had our centuries long Filthy party...in both Manufacturing and Consuming those products and...well, the party is Over and Mother Earth has sent the eviction notice we worked so hard for.

They make the crap we really don't need that we willingly buy. Destroying the Earth well, it's been a partnership...

The season for growing starts earlier and ends sooner. Too damn hot.

I have solar panels, I'm converting my lawn to xeriscaping, I capture rain water, I drive a hybrid, I recycle and compost.

but in the end, it won't matter a damn thing because no matter how much I try, it will be, as we used to say back east, nothing more than shoveling shit against the tide.

I can at least say, when I shed this mortal coil, that I tried.
