Rand Paul ‘kills’ the tax code in new digital ad
Source: WMUR
U.S. Sen. Rand Pauls campaign has posted a new attention-grabbing digital ad that illustrates his desire to kill the existing tax code and replace it with his fair and flat tax plan.
The ad shows Paul, surrounded by thousands of pages representing the tax code, saying, Im trying to kill the tax code, all 70,000 pages of it, and replace it with a one-page tax code, a one-page tax return. His plan calls for a 14.5 percent flat tax.
To the electric guitar strains of Jimi Hendrixs version of The Star-Spangled Banner, Paul is seen burning, chipping and, finally, using a chainsaw to destroy the code.

(6,036 posts)Doubt the big accounting firms and tax attorneys would let it happen. But a 1 page progressive tax code could be a very good thing.

(8,974 posts)His recent omnipresence and hogging of the spotlight has crowded out much of the competition. Rand Paul with his shrinking single-digit polling numbers would seem to be a victim of this phenomena.

(523 posts)Rand Paul, describing the Tax Code as comprising 70,000 pages, is either lying or misrepresenting what the Tax Code is.
The actual Tax Code is under two thousand pages - its bulk mostly the result of loopholes promoted by well-paid lobbyists for big business and billionaires, but to get 70,000 pages is possible only when you also include all the IRS internal regulations and paragraphs from almost every published court tax decision.

(50,566 posts)Also should be noted: there is a LOT of weird shit in Title 26...there are federal excise taxes on wagers, greenmail, tires, vaccines, machine guns...the federal liquor and tobacco laws are all in the tax code...if you "totally repealed" the Internal Revenue Code you'd be there for five years creating a ton of new laws to deal with all the things Title 26 deals with very well already.
