Police: Man arrested for possessing gun near Biden event
Updated 4:11 pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2015
LOS ANGELES (AP) Police say a photographer has been arrested after being found with a loaded gun at a vehicle checkpoint for a Los Angeles event where Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled to speak.
Police Cmdr. Andrew Smith said the man was taken into custody Wednesday and will be booked on suspicion of improperly carrying a firearm.
Smith says the man didn't appear to have any criminal intent. State law requires that firearms in a vehicle be unloaded and stored in a locked container.
The weapon was discovered hours before Biden was to speak at a business about increasing the minimum wage. Los Angeles recently approved raising the base wage to $15 an hour by 2020.
