Pennsylvania man arrested after burning Confederate flag

Source: Bangor Daily News

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania — A Pennsylvania man has been arrested for setting fire to a plastic Confederate battle flag attached to a parked pickup truck, in an apparent drunken impulse, police said Friday.

Mathew Becker of Hanover admitted setting fire to the flag at 5:30 a.m. July 17 in the parking lot of a local convenience store, local police said.

“It was a crime of opportunity,” Lt. Chad Martin of the Hanover Police Department said. “He was not upset about the flag. He was walking by, he had a lighter in his hand, and he was intoxicated.”

Becker, 47, who was identified by surveillance video, was arraigned Thursday on counts of reckless burning, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, police said.

Trucks and fire don't always get along. But the one where she burned it in a grill shouldn't have been charged.

The charge is certainly warranted, and I'm sure that if the person had not been drunk better judgment would have prevailed.

You can't go around lighting fires on or near vehicles. It's a hazard even for electric vehicles, which have batteries that can catch fire under certain circumstances.

Think of the "reckless" like the reckless in reckless driving.
