Canceling 19 Kids and Counting Cost Discovery $19 Million

When TLC canceled 19 Kids and Counting last month, the network knew it would take a hit. Now we know just how big that hit was.
On this morning's earnings call, TLC's parent company, Discovery Communications, revealed a restructuring charge of $19 million "primarily due to content impairment charges from canceling TLC's 19 Kids and Counting," said CFO Andy Warren.
TLC canceled the reality show July 16, two months after reports surfaced that the oldest of the Duggar children, Josh Duggar, now 27, had molested several underage girls when he was a teenager. While the show will no longer air, TLC will continue to work with the family, producing a one-hour, commercial-free documentary featuring Jill and Jessa Duggar, two of Josh's victims.
Discovery's revenues increased 3 percent in the second quarter of 2015, but earnings were down 2 percent.

(5,754 posts)Oprah knew, so they knew. Why not post how much they made from 19 kids knowing that there was serious abuse in the house, not how much more they might have made.

(3,194 posts)Where did that $19 Million "restructuring" charge go? Was there a contract cancellation fee paid to the Duggar's?
Seems like someone is fudging some numbers for the books.

(15,224 posts)"TLC will continue to work with the family"????? At what point does TLC not get the fact that the Duggars do not need a vehicle to peddle their oppressive lifestyle?

(5,128 posts)survivor of sexual abuse, by my father, when I was 11 through 17, the Duggar's, mom and dad, the girls, Josh, none of them should be on the Learning Channel's new mea culpa. They failed everyone miserably!!
Their sad, sordid tale wound up sending me back to see my therapist and I am about to be 58. My therapist is known as the therapist to therapists. Rick Carson.
Note to TLC, end it.
So wrong, so many ways, in every direction!!

(788 posts)was this atrocity of of a reality show even conceived for
the LEARNING CHANNEL ? Could it be that the right wing puppet masters
behind TLC were actually promoting the "Quiver full" cult of home schooling
fanatics and religious zeolites ?
And, they violated their own religious beliefs by pandering for
corporate sponsors instead of relying ONLY on themselves
to support their brood of inbred trolls.
